18 off 40 against the Aussies and they'll actually keep him on strike.
I'd take that every day of the ****ing week. They're going to play at Eden Park remember? He could be playing against Wasim Akram and Malcolm Marshall, but if he is still in at the 30th over at Eden Park he is going to go ham against anyone.

Useful boundaries. You have to wonder whether he has a very inflated sense of self importance though. There's no way you should get as far as 19 (43). That's just straight up not caring about the pressure you're putting on your team.
Na rubbish. Non-existent pressure. When the two blokes at the other end are striking at 100 without playing a risky shot you don't need to play a risky shot just to artificially raise your own strike rate so you look good.

Guptill is looking to build an innings and partnerships, definitely a big team man. If it was a different situation he'd have tried to hoick it down the ground a bit earlier. I think he's been told by pretty much everyone in the squad and even half the commentators that he needs to find form before the world cup.

Looks like he is starting to fire a bit too.
Can see both sides of the argument here. I agree with Mike in that it's unacceptable to ever be 19 off 43 batting first on a good deck when you're 1 down, but I don't blame Guptill, I blame the McHesson's for allowing one player to seemingly have less expectations on them that anyone else.

I suppose Neesh, Brownlie and Devcich were the ones supposed to pressure him for that spot. Slim pickings.

Well of course that's the greatest of the reasons :p Followed by the fact Guppy probably saves 8-10 runs an innings in the field

Guptill didn't get a goldie today? Good!

If he stays in his strike rate will get up to 100, he's been there done that, the key is to stay in and not get out with a SR of 50

In saying that I'd take a Guptill scoring 40@SR65 for the WC, that's better than ducks, Latham right now (sorry) and 3/50.

Meanwhile... Cricket continues to be so easy for Williamson. It's almost unfair how efficient in his movements this guy is.
