Maharoof was never really good enough with the bat to be an all-rounder IMO, his bowling has been decent in past Australia tours though, hits good lengths and can extract a bit of seam movement and bounce, I remember floating his name a while ago but he seemed to fall off the radar a couple of years ago

His batting record is pretty similar to Jeevan's.

Shouldnt've ditched Tharanga imo.. the selectors hate that guy for some reason.
They keep recalling him at the wrong times for the wrong reasons then they drop him before he gets a proper chance to make an impact, he should have played in the last few games of the England tour and would have been a better selection than Dimuth for the WC squad as he has some utility down the order

One of the few SL batsmen that can consistently go on and get a ton.. Not sure why you wouldn't value that.. Thiri might have potential but why would you ditch a guy with proven potential, has done it before in the WC, and at 29 is near his prime? This squad really can't win a WC imo.

None of the batsmen with 10+ tons in that list had their places questioned.. this guy just gets the raw deal for some reason.

He wouldn't be a bad bet at #7 though for the WC..Apparently he is very relaxed when it comes to practice and training, that could have had something to do with it. Also just read that SLC tried to have Vaas replaced as bowling coach during this tour, it only failed due to champaka ramanayake bring unable to commit ..absolute joke treating a legend like that..

Gosh I hope Corey gets tested today. He is bowling just as quick as the other seamers and needs to be rotated/rested like the rest of them.

The paper today was suggesting that Corey would play today and be rested for the Pakistan ODI on Sunday.

In the event of a Ronchi injury that ends his tournament (I.e. Not just miss a match), McHesson has 2 options:

1. Have Latham keep and bring a reserve batsman (e.g. Munro) into the squad.

2. Straight swap in Watling and Latham remains the reserve for spots 1-7.

Of these I much prefer option 2 because I'm not sure how confident I am in Latham's keeping, particularly to the spinners.

Good point. I can't say I've seen much of Latham with the gloves, so I'd be leaning towards opt.2 as well (even though I  Munro)

I think Watling's the next best batsman available anyway so it's an easy decision for me.
Me too but I get the feeling McHesson questions Watling's strike rate at 7. (I'd just move him up to 6 and have Anderson at 7 but I don't think the selectors want to move Corey).

Yeah, having both Watling and Elliott in the lower middle order isn't really ideal from an icing perspective. I think I'd probably have Watling at five in that situation but he'd probably just bat seven. That said, I'm not convinced Latham would be much better in a pure icing role than Watling anyway; he's certainly got more ability to go over the top once he's set but I don't think he really possesses those skills when he first comes to the crease.
