It was good bowling, but don't forget Ronchi's strength is getting full-bowling away. The margin of error for bowling an effective yorker to Ronchi is a significantly less than Bopara with the way Ronchi stays deep in his crease.

And I can't think of many better at dispatching low full tosses than the Donkey.
Word.

Ronchi is FAT CITY with marginally off target yorkers. That's pretty much what Starc was killing it with today.

Not sure how he goes when they're swinging sharply but you reckon he'd work it out. Ravi Bopara literally got bowled today without playing a proper shot, and Ronchi would've hit the same ball for 6.

****ing hell Sky Sports. I was all set to watch the highlights, but instead I'm having to sit through extra time in Iran vs. Iraq in the Asia Football Federation Cup. Whilst I'm sure that on a Geopolitical scale, Iran vs. Iraq is incredibly important, WHERE THE **** ARE MY ****ING NEW ZEALAND CRICKET HIGHLIGHTS YOU USELESS SPUDS.

Thanks for the heads up Heath, just changed the channel and it's all happening in Canberra...a goal apiece in the first half of extra time.

You missed an Iranian chap screaming in the face of the referee. And then the Iraqi got booked. It's all going off out there.

[insert poorly thought out car bomb *gag*]

The crowd certainly seem up for it. The game, that is.

One never really fully DWTAs with a post because there is always truth within it. But I disagree that the death bowling was all yorkers. There was a wide variety of scientifically selected deliveries that were mapped out by several analysts several months ago during world cup planning.

Each over was full of a fine sequence of deliveries that some PHDs had worked on. Well maybe not PHDs but definitely the video analyst would have studied many hours of tape and some high priced cricket consultant was involved of that I am certain.

This was death bowling at a new level. It was highly cerebral.

Ronchi would not have carved up. But yes would have done better than Bopara who looked like a chump.

As i didnt see it i wanted to ask you guys, was it genuinely good play from Ronchi or was poor captaincy a contributory factor?- the first we cant do anything about, but the second we can- hence my question rather than trying to belittle Ronchi(well done to him)..
- Jeevan Mendis (who I had thought was a reasonable leggie until now) bowled one of the worst overs I've ever seen early on in the partnership. 5 long hops. The first 2 were pulled straight to the men in the deep, then Ronchi smacked the next couple for six. Got him going nicely.

- At the start of the power play in the 32nd over we were around 180/5. I.e. we still did not have a good score and it was still our last batting partnership. However, the mindless bowlers decided Powerplay = Death Bowling and proceeded to attempt wide yorkers which even when perfectly executed were an easy single when that's all we were really looking for at that stage anyway. When they missed they were full tosses or half volleys and Ronchi smashed them. Really dumb bowling plans. They should have bowled length and not let us rotate the strike - instead they gifted us singles and hit me balls.

tbh I only watched the last 2 overs. Of those 12 balls probably 8-10 were attempted fast yorkers and most were not executed perfectly by any means.

Where have all the Boult haters gone?
Very much doubt anyone hates Trent Boult anywhere in the world, let alone NZ'ders.

I know I just posted a comment about the fact he bowled well today.

It is slightly ammusing however how quick you are to post the 'Boult-haters' comment, yet strangely you were nowhere to be seen in the domestic thread when old-man-river Millsey did a job on your ND mob the other day.

As someone else already said, some of us actually call a spade a spade, whether the spade is the one in our back garden or not.

Woeful penalties first up for both sides. Hoping Iraq get up tbh
Would be a bit of a shock if Iraq won, I would think. It looked on the graphic as if there was a red card next to the Iran score, so I'm guessing they were playing a man down.

Into sudden death penalties now.

That was one of the most amazing soccer games i have ever seen!!!!

Ps the ref booked the Iranian player for a yellow but he forgot he was already booked, so when he was reminded he had to give a red. Poor refereeing really

Only cricket I saw today was on mute, so only reading the KFC jibe/joke now for first time.

You see, my first reaction was ' is Styris part of the mean girls Vettori gang' ? I'm suspicious about the a few of that generation, and any 'clubbiness'. After the Taylor dumping.
Vettori, Mills etc

In saying thus, I honestly have no idea about Styris, and I have been liking his commentary, but that comment immediately made me think about the old generation supposedly conspiring against Taylor.
).

Could just be a friendly ex-teammate in-joke. Etc

Here's Ronchi's knock;

Just finished watching it - missed the match yesterday..

Great knock, some woeful bowling must be said - so many ****ing full-tosses, half-trackers and hit-me-length balls..

What Ronchi did to Lakmal can only be categorized as ************ really..
