I cant believe Clive Lloyd has the audacity to sit there and say that this is the best West Indies team they could select, does he honestly think he can justify leaving out Bravo who was named in the World 11 for ODIS for last year, they are a shambles right now, no wonder Gayle hit out.

Never encountered the word vooping before.
It's West Indian for slog. I can't think of a better way to describe some of Gayles windy wooshes outside off stump today. For one of the better opening ODI batsmen the game has seen, that was a disgraceful display.

Yeah, I often think that Chanderpaul could be useful in this ODI side. He's not actually retired; they just stopped picking him (possibly because they thought he'd not still be playing at this World Cup). There's just not enough substance to the batting. 'All icing, no cake' as the New Zealand fans here say.
We've not been the same since Sarwan lost his way and they dumped Shiv. He was masterful at rotating the strike and batting through the innings. At a time when we have more powerful hitters down the order than any team could possibly need, there is a big case for playing anyone who can bat through the innings and score at a strikerate of 70/80 thus allowing the power hitters to do their thing. I'd honsetly consider playing Braithwaite ahead of someone like Dwayne Smith at this stage.

I also think we need to swap one of the seam bowling all rounders for a spin bowling all rounder in this series as the bowling attack lacks variety without Narine. Russell is much better than Sammy IMHO so we should bring in Deonarine for Sammy and see how it goes.

Sir Clive Lloyd may have been a wonderful cricketer and leader during his time but almost everything he has touched administratively in his career has gone very wrong (from the strike before the infamous first SA tour with Lara and Hooper to the abandoned India tour recently and this shambles of a selection effort).

We are also operating without a coach (who is only going to be appointed after the World Cup) and it shows.

So they played the same team? Gluttons for punishment I guess. They tried to say we have too many medium fast all rounders in the team to justify the Bravo and Pollard exclusions but yet they insist on playing Russell, Sammy and Holder together. Holder is the captain and Russell is far superior so therefore Sammy should sit either for a proper batsman or a spin bowling all rounder.

There is just zero cricketing common sense in the Caribbean, it's so frustrating.

I don't really agree that Russell is far superior to Sammy in anything other than theory, but I agree with your concerns about the balance.

I'm a bit surprised that Carter seems to be selected on the strength of his batting alone. I think if he's to be an international cricketer it has to be a bits-and-pieces one, contributing in all facets.

Russell is a far better batsman and fielder, their bowling is about the same (Russell has a higher rpo but takes more wickets). Russell also has far more potential for the future. Out of the two they should be picking him every time.

Carter has been pretty good with the bat in List A over the last couple of years. He does bowl very useful medium pace too though, they should definitely use him. The problem is if they were going to use Carter they had to give him more game time before the World Cup rather than throw him in at the deep end.

Awful awful selection policies.

Amla is just so good at rotating the strike. In fact the biggest difference between these two sides is the rotation of the strike IMHO. SA are really good at it and we are shocking.

amla's calm persona and the way he bats for the team and helps out other batsmen, means he is the perfect batsmen to bat with, if youre a debutant, new to the team or struggling with your form

Rilee to ton up will be real good here. Dave striking it nice & Quinny doing nicely in his limited overs career it is good to see the next generation come through and growing into the international stage.

Elgar & Stiaan in tests to + Reeza Hendricks has had a few good knocks in T20's bedding in.

Been a good minor transition year on the batting front.

Yeah I reckon the World Cup's probably just come one season early for South Africa.

Got to agree. Don't have great expectations going into this world cup. We normally play good limited overs cricket in Australia but lets see.

Man Amla's ODI stats just get more and more ridiculously good.
His ODI career was so unexpected too, at least from my perspective. His domestic OD record was (and probably still is) ordinary at best even into his mid 20s when he was selected, and watching him play Test cricket he really took me as a perfect candidate for someone who'd be much, much better at Tests than ODIs: a boundary-reliant top order batsman who wasn't a big single-taker but also very rarely went aerial. Their idea to take such a player and bat him out of position was just crazy enough to work, it seems.

Well done to Rossouw. Surprised to see his average coming into this game after 10 innings was just 14.

Rossouw a fair chance to double his entire ODI output (145 runs in 10 matches before this innings.)

Sa seem to really love playing in pink, the last two times we played in pink, we scored 300 plus and we also won comfortably, on top of that, it also looks like were set for another score of 300 plus(on a side note, mikey reckons real and confident man wear pink)
