Amla's 196 at Perth in the batting performances for me. SA came in as a suspect No. 1 against a confident and building Australia. Australia scored more runs losing five wickets in the match than SA did losing fifteen in the first test and the second test headline screamed 'South Africa - the best test nation in the world - survives against Australia'.

Two low scores first up in the third test, Virus goes early in the 6th over at 28 and game on. After that, In 200 balls, Amla puts Australia out of the series that they've been on the prowl to win for the last 2 weeks.

Great innings regardless but considering the context, absolutely glorious.

KP's Mumbai heroics and Mahela deserve a mention too.

5-30 at Lord's in the bowling performances list. Have always been a massive fan of him for a while but this is the spell that really sold Vernon for me. No team ever could have stopped him from getting wickets that day. Fairly comfortably his best performance so far IMO.

I went with Faf (although there were plenty of good batting performances), and Rehman for Tests.

Morkel nominated with 3/63? Really?

It was a good spell, but really...

EDIT: This nomination gets odder when you notice they've overlooked the Steyn spell in the last innings of the same match.

If anything other than McCullum's triple wins the batting award it'll be a complete travesty. Rahane at Lord's would've won any other year imo. The bowling one has lots of cracking nominees... Harris' no-knee spell, Dhammika's headingley 5-fer and Herath's 14 were awesome, but yeah I'd go for the Mitch 7/68 too.

Athlai

Not Terrible
Test
McCullum 302 (the double maybe a little unlucky not to get mentioned?)
Mitche 7/68
ODI
Anderson 131* (but the 264 will win)
Malinga 5/56 (Hazlewood not far off)
T20
Kohli or Hales, all pretty meh
Herath by a country mile

Test ones are pretty obvious tbh, despite there being a few really good performances. McCullum's triple and Mitch running through the SA top order like he did were ATG performances.

Morkel was scary during that though. It was really something else.

Typical Morkel bowling a great spell for 3 fer. Glorified Ishant Sharma with a Styen and Philander next to him.

Ishant has done decently too in recent times tbf. Maybe we're simply seeing the era of the unlucky, he's bowled better than his figures suggest, bowler.
