They'd have to be something on the edge if that ball was to go to slip like that which it didn't look like on hotspot.

Adelaide was a good wicket, Gabba was flat compared to its usual self but still good (probably the best in that runs were easy to score and good bowling was rewarded, saw some cracks too by day 4) but MCG and SCG have been utterly ridiculous.

On what ground was that out? The big hotspot is on theToe-end which pumps it straight into the ground with the angle.
I'm guessing that he thought the ball grazed the bat on the way up after bouncing? That's the only thing I can think of.

Geez. First ball I've seen today and that happens. I actually think it probably was out, tbh, but surely you can't give it based on that evidence.
i think it was probably out too but how you can be sure, i have no idea

yep. 52-48 confidence though.

I'm usually one to think that the benefit to the batsmen is bull**** but that should have applied in the situation.

As a bowler I never complained, but the amount of times it happens now where it's so clearly obvious the umpires have ignored the rule book and not applied doubt, is ridiculous. Rahane's LBW was another classic example. At least that one can be defended by being live and no extra looks.

Simon Fry's future lies in french fries if that's the level of adjudication he brings to the table.

Ideally in a test match you want to see good bowling to get good batting out. The players who have thrived this series have only really got out with brain-fades or attempting something ludicrous/risky. Adelaide looked bad but then turned out to he a a good wicket on the last two days with the turn/rough.

There's so little tension when it's just about bowling as well as you can so that you have the best possible chance of getting batsman out when the brain-fade comes. Good bowling should be reward with lots of wickets but on these pitches it's really only been 5th day Adelaide and 4th day Gabba when we've seen anything of the sort.
There's been a real lack of wickets from good ball pitched just outside off stump and going to slip, (Haze got a few at the Gabba), they all seem to be from pokes, wafts or slashes rather than just being done by movement.

off-topic but majora's mask is the worst ****ing game ever. just did the whole gold skulltula place thing, the swamp shooting range, the east clock town shooting range, left east clock town to save and then it crashed. would rather watch ishant sharma make 0* (200) than play that **** again

I remember being given "not out" to a plumb LBW shout by a paid umpire in a rep match and when asked why - "The ball pitched outside off before hitting him infront of the wickets" - conversely, I remember another paid umpire saying "not out" to a stumping with the comment "Part of his foot was on the line"

nah, it's not like these wickets haven't bounced at all. They've bounced a bit less but the ball has moved very truly horizontally (a bit of vertical uncertainty at times) and for the players who play bounce very well (Kohli, Smith, Marsh, for instance) there hasn't been many gremlins to get them out. The ease batting by the tail is also an indication of unsporting nature of the wickets IMO.
