Please let this be Rutherford's last chance... even when he's set and looking good, he gives away a soft easy dismissal against the run of play.
Yup, sign of mental weakness & nothing else there. So very poor.

So break this partnership, remove bmac early and we'll be looking pretty good, but lots of work to do, really need Lakmal to step up and find the right length, also need some Herath magic I think

As much as I appreciate his rugby commentary, he always comes across as a poor substitute when it comes to commentating on cricket Grant Nisbett.

Your lads slowly starting to find the right lines/lengths now...much better signs.

NZ maintaining a very good run rate.. The SL pacers seem to always bowl that one bad ball an over.. probably partly explains why none of them have decent averages so far in their careers..

I've always maintained that Prasad and Pradeep can't play in the same side, the run-rate close to 4 this session is why

It's nice and overcast so I doubt the pitch will change much between days 1 and 2.

Richard Petrie is doing a cracking job on the radio commentary, good to hear from on of my old favourites.

Aw Smithy doesn't get a car-park and has to walk a few hundred meters to commentate on international cricket. Tough times.

They tend to be rhythm bowlers, Lakmal and Prasad only swing it at their absolute best, like Wagner I guess
Duke vs kookaburra also a factor.

Yeah it just seems like he doesn't really follow cricket.

Oops..That is lunch...25 overs in 2 hours without any major stoppages, except one ball change. The sooner penalty extras are conceded, the better.

Anyway, NZ's session by a long way after losing the toss. Especially with Williamson & Taylor still intact.

New Zealand's session no doubt about that. Sri Lanka just weren't good enough. They had a nice wee period before Williamson got going but besides that, below average.

Not a horrible session but not a good one either from us, NZ batted ok but gifted us a couple of wickets it must be said, some better bowling later in the session and decent planning saved us tbh, need to come out better and take at least 3 wickets in the 2nd session to stay in the game.

Lakmal in particular improved as the session wore on, his six overs after changing ends brought only 10 runs and a wicket, still slightly short but not too bad, Pradeep is probably being a little too aggressive looking to induce the drive but is finding some movement, Prasad bowled with decent heat at times but he was a bit inconsistent, Matthews bowled a ripper first up then was a bit loose, Herath needs to come into the game more now that the lefties are gone
