Dhoni retires from Test Cricket

Yes I too will enjoy winning in Sydney against Kholi.

My main problem with Dhoni is what I said before. He just came across as not caring about test cricket and gave terrible press conferences that foretold of little to no improvement.

To be clear, I don't think Kholi is some sort of tactical genius who will take India to great heights overnight - (Sure hope not) - But atleast he clearly wants to be out there in the test arena rather than some bloke who would rather hit the buffet after keeping for 20 overs.
Ah but then again Kohli is 25. Young bloke, in his peak, in good form with the bat; 'course he'd want to be out there.

To me it seemed as the years went by that Dhoni seeming to "care less" was simply because he was losing interest in the game. Test cricket is a hard, hard game on the body, and the mind even more so and imagine if you captained in a series where you were whitewashed 4-0 not once but twice. I'm not surprised if he stopped caring about test cricket after England 2011. Then again he was always quite inept a tactician in overseas test series, and he deserves to cop a fair deal of criticism for India's poor record over the last 4 years.

A decision should have come a long time ago. But better late than ever. He is an ATG in ODIs and T20 so its good he will be concentrating there which is good for himself and India.

And thats why he needed to piss off

This is awesome if overdue news! He was never much of a Test bat, always an indifferent glove-man and tactically clueless without Zaheer to lead and guide the attack. Hopefully this is also the first step in dismantling the BCCI-CSK-Srini-Dhoni incestuous nexus. Hopefully he gives up captaincy in the limited over affairs too.

That said would love to see him for a long time in limited overs cricket - as a non-captain.

Be interesting to see how Kohli goes long term. Be even funnier if he bcci brushed him and went with Vijay or Pujara for the lols.

Lets be honest, at least when another team is on top, you won't be seeing fields out waiting for a mistake as much. Yes, you still need to be defensive when there's a decent partnership put together, but it's not literally waiting for a mistake, you still have to use at least one or two fielders trying to get you a wicket.

I think that's what most cricket fans found frustrating against Dhoni; I don't think we'll be seeing as many of the 200+ scores against India away which were actually no fun to watch (e.g. Cook in 2011).

My impression of Dhoni was a great leader, but very stubborn/rigid with his thought processes, had his ideas and didn't like changing them. And his ideas in general don't mesh with test cricket. As a batter he's an Indian caricature, amazing wrists and ability on subcontinent wickets, useless against bounce and swing.

I'm really curious to see how Kohli deals with test captaincy, and how it effects his batting. Could go either way.
