Oh and apparently Coloccini is genuinely, proper genuinely, being lined up to be next Newcastle manager. What a cheapskate Mike Ashley is.

Hope Brom go down. They don't really add anything to the division at all. I didn't mind them so much when they were actually a decent and tidy side, but these days they aren't any good at all really.

Tell you what, Henderson is quality isn't he. Lallana is looking the goods again and Coutinho too. If they get Sturridge fit and perhaps sign a keeper and a defender I'd imagine Liverpool will do better in the second half of the season, can't see them getting top four though. United are only gonna get better IMO and Arsenal obviously have a space locked down.

Will reserve judgment on Liverpool's recent "revival" until they actually get a good result against a team that they wouldn't be expected to beat fairly comfortably.

Yeah, the new system has got Lallana and Coutinho playing really well. If Sturridge comes back those two can rotate with Sterling with Sturridge up top and they'll have a really potent attack. Then you have Lovren getting injured and they're looking more secure at the back as well.

Yeah agreed. My original point was that a keeper and a defender would make the difference. Their defending against you, in particular for I think the second, was as bad as your posting. Sort that and get Sturridge fit and IMO they are a good side.

That being said. They'd probably have walked the league last year with those problems sorted. Not sure Rodgers grasps that, and I probably rate him as a manager more than most around here (I mean CW but tbh could also extend it to my locale. My grandad who is a semi red, as well as a white, would get on well with Brumby if Rodgers was the topic of conversation).

Both of those problems aren't going to be solved overnight though. Sorting the defence is easier said than done in any case when the problems run as deep as they do, and given Rodgers has already flung millions at the problem and it's still as bad as ever I don't think he's likelier than most to be able to solve it.

Sturridge is, always has been and likely always will be ridiculously injury prone as well.

The big mistake was getting a big windfall and spunking half of it on players who made up the backbone of a team that just came 8th, and weren't even close to finishing above the worst United side in over 20 years. Rodgers' transfer record is frankly appalling, although in fairness we are told that the transfers are done by a committee of which he has just one vote. If true that in itself is worrying.

Yeah fair enough.

On the transfer spend in the summer though, tbf they spent a large chunk of it on younger players. It was like going close to the title didn't change their plans, to build for the future. Whether those players, thinking Can, Markovic, etc, turn out any good is another question but I don't know if it's directly comparable with what spurs did (not saying you do, more a general point).

That being said a good 40m or so was spent on Lallana, Balotelli and Lambert. I think Lallana is bearing fruit and will continue to do so but yeah

Not sure how old Lovren is actually and cbf to check

Their transfer record under Rodgers is hideous though. Whether the one vote thing is true or not he will pay for it in the end, that's the way the game works. See also, every sacked Tottenham manager.
