1999-2003 I'd guess when we had Fleming, Astle, Cairns, Nash, Doull, Bond (starting), Vettori, Richardson. We may move up to 5th in the Test rankings by the end of this series. When was the last time we were that high?
And in all likelihood we'll go into that series with 3rd in the ICC Test rankings at stake. So when we go to England in 2015 we will be going in having not lost a series in just over two years. Good times.
Trigger move - gets himself "focused" for the ball. Probably stole it from Bruce Lee in his martial art films. No different to the slight squat Pietersen used to have at the crease during the bowlers run up.What's that little shimmy Taylor does with his head before each ball.
Is 3rd a fair reflection of the Black Cap's world ranking? Obviously we have to beat England (and Sri Lanka) first. But the question is how much of this golden summer is a good run of form and how much of it is permanent, positive structural change that will lead to several years of such performances. And in all likelihood we'll go into that series with 3rd in the ICC Test rankings at stake.
I think we got to two at one point.Pretty sure NZ were as high as 3rd on the test rankings when they first started around 2002-03.
I think we can compete against any team on our own soil except South Africa and I think Australia would blow us away in Australia too. Fourth is about right for us.Is 3rd a fair reflection of the Black Cap's world ranking? Obviously we have to beat England (and Sri Lanka) first. His elbow is dead straight through delivery tbh. Puts a lot of wristwork on the ball but seems clean to me.So how long before this Kaushal lad gets called?
We definitely aren't outright 3rd at this point. But we certainly deserve to be talked about. We have a fantastic new ball pair, a quality middle order, one of the better keepers in the world. We also have a promising opener and couple of allrounders, with decent depth for our 3rd pacer. Is 3rd a fair reflection of the Black Cap's world ranking? A better chance than India.I honestly think we'd be a good chance of beating Australia in Australia.
Who were we missing when they beat us in England last time...The great travesty for me is I see we play a mingy 2-test series in England next year along with 5 ODIs. If only logic prevailed & they decided to cut the ODI series to 3 to allow a 3rd test.
I'd say our batting line up is about the same as theirs without Clarke and theirs is marginally better with Clarke - they've got Johnson and Harris capable of scoring runs, Lyon is a much better spin bowler than we can muster up and their pure pace from Johnson would **** all over us (in my view) as Williamson hasn't shown me he's capable against high octane pace. That's the issue against Australia, can we deal with Mitchell Johnson bowling throat high bouncers at us at 155kph. If we can, we'll do OK. If we can't, we'll get shot out.I honestly think we'd be a good chance of beating Australia in Australia.
Especially with Clarke out, we have a better batting lineup, and their batsmen would struggle against bowlers who actually do something with the ball.
