A weird situation for a current captain to be commentating, he can't really mean what he said about Dhoni.

And wtf was that shot.

This is where someone like Rahane has to learn from batsmen like Mahela/Sanga when it comes to playing long innings.. They were going so well and needed to grind Aus out and push for quick runs tomorrow.. instead he got carried away and now 700 seems far away.

****ing lol at Dhoni coming down the track. Seems like he gave Rahul the instructions to go after the bowling? Only logical explanation for someone on debut to do that on his 7th and 8th deliveries.

Rahul being stupid on debut doesn't justify Rohit Sharma's previous incompetence btw.

Though Dhawan for me should have been dropped instead but oh well.

Hitting the stumps and I'm fairly sure Dhoni wasn't playing a shot there. At least not a shot that makes any sense for the scenario. Out.

Mahela couldn't in his wildest dreams play an innings like this against an attack of this quality in Australia.

Strangely that innings is a good example of why you don't want an all-rounder there.
Need a batting all rounder who can bowl decently and ideally seam. Don't seem any deserving around.

Rishi Dhawan deserves a go at some stage but he is more a bowler who can bat like Ashwin/Bhuvi.

How exactly? As far as I'm concerned a 30/40 odd from all rounder is more than enough (no number 6 bat since Ganguly has made the spot their own), this Indian team batting wise (if you exclude the last 2 england test) is absolutely fine. India's problem isn't their batting, it's their bowling and they need all the support bowling wise they can get.

Rohit has played a grand total of 9 test matches.. India are too quick to hit the drop button with new players.. If a talent like him was say in SL he would get at least 10-15 matches in a row to prove himself - but he rarely gets more than 2 matches in a row.

Binny wasn't given a fair run IMO.

We also have Nayar and Irfan kicking about.
