Nothing from BCCI in that article.

Dhoni is trying to play Devil's advocate as per usual. He is basically Srinivasan's man.

Quite possible most of the team want it, so Dhoni somehow trying to play balancing act.

Except the fact that Burns has always batted Top 3?
Early on in his career Burns batted 4-5 and actually failed when given a run at 3. He only started opening after getting dropped and then forcing his way back in. The only reason he became an opener IMO is because QLD had settled players in the middle order (Khawaja, Forrest, Lynn, Hopes/Hartley) at the time and crap openers.

International Captain
Watson has had the luckiest run at international cricket and I've taken his continued presence as reflective of our weakness, but now I just want him out of the side. Then Marsh does a hammy...lucky bugger is Watson. Hopefully he gets shown up by Burns at Melbourne. If Watson bats at six there he must be close to being phased out.

Smith deserved MOTM at Brisbane. I think his captaincy was tested in the hardest way on day one. Such heat and bowlers dropping off tested him and India only really got away in the last session of day one. Keeping them 4/311 was a fantastic effort and gave Australia the opportunity to fight back the next day.

Imo India should play 5 bowlers and going forward I'd add Bhuvi to these 4. I think India's bowlers are good enough if you play them to their strengths. I like Yadav's pace and swing 1st up and ability to hit the deck and get bounce later in the day. He's an impressive bowler. Sharma gets more dangerous as the match goes on and the pitch deteriorates. Ashwin to hold and Aaron to be kept back for the reversing ball. With Bhuvi absent I'd have Sharma open instead of 1st change and bring in Jadeja.

Our batting isn't strong but it does have the virtue of scoring quickly and in doing so get the team out of trouble; which happened here. All the same we can't afford to carry Watto, Smarsh and Haddin. I'd add Ferguson and Hartley with Burns as their replacements. Maybe Nevill for Hartley. The faith in Smarsh is misplaced but even more so against India. He is Yadav's bunny and I'd be surprised if the Indian quickie doesn't roll whoever is bowling just to get the ball when smarsh walks to the crease.

As an Indian supporter, it's been heartening that we've often been competing this series and it's also been frustrating that we throw it all away and manage to achieve that overseas Test loss that we seem to play for. Some particular negatives:
- Fast bowlers having abysmal economy rates. I understand that you have to attack, often with 4 slips and a gully, and naturally have less fielders on the boundary. This doesn't mean that giving a boundary or two every over is par for the course. A bowler bowling over 20 overs and going for over 5+ is simply not international level.
- Batting order collapses. I'm not sure what was worse - losing at Adelaide from such a strong position or waking up on Day 4 at Brisbane to see 6 wickets thrown away even before lunch. Compare and contrast to Australia's first innings where Johnson and Co hit some very valuable runs
- Kohli's catching in the slips. I read somewhere that he has dropped 50% of his catches in the slips in the recent past. He needs to be out of the slips.
- Brain-dead batting by Rohit. I like Rohit Sharma, I think he could become an ODI great. But I cannot understand his approach to Test cricket. How is he not taught that he needs to get stuck in and not play flashy shots? Or that when he's coming in at number 6, the side is likely out of specialist batsmen and needs him to play with caution.
- DRS. Don't get me started.

Do they really need a replacement in a 19 man squad?
It is a terrible thing to take such a big squad. These players are losing out on game time playing regular Ranji Trophy just warming benches. Next thing you know, they will be out of form.

Disagree. Think it's great for them to be part of the squad for such a massively important tour. They're essentially tourists but they'll be learning plenty and watching the two teams first hand is a great experience imo, especially in an environment they're not familiar with at all.

Think Aaron will be dropped for him if so.
After couple of good tour games, every one was wanting Aaron to play instead of Umesh Yadav. Even the management went for Aaron instead of Yadav. I can't believe how short sighted the management can be at times. Yadav bowled well in the earlier ODI series v Sri Lanka. He was clearly some one I would not have dropped for the first test.
