For the long term health of the team, I'm not so sure. If the team isn't getting rolled, there's less impetus to tear it up and make a fresh start when maybe that's what's needed.

On Watson, the issue isn't that he's not Test standard in terms of ability but performance. So because he looks a million bucks, everyone thinks the one big knock which sets his career alight is around the corner so he keeps getting a go. It's never really ever come, though.....

While we're on the subject of giving up the ascendency, it took me about 10 years to get over Kolkata 2000/01!
Aussies one-nil up and India 4 for not many in 2nd inns of 2nd test and Tendulkar back in the shed. Enter Dravid and Laxman and a 376 run partnership. India win series 2-1 and I don't sleep for a month........

true he has the talent but just not the ability - test ability requires steely resolve which he lacks

Looks like we might get Harris back for Starc and Marsh may not be fit. Bring in a batter at 3 and put Watson at 6.

to India's credit, at least they have been in the game in both the test matches, and have had the upper hand for a good period of time. Much better than their last tour. Although I get the feeling that this loss would be very demoralizing for them, might break their will.
They had the upper hand for one session on day five in Adelaide. They took 12 wickets for the game.

India has played well in patches and terrible in some patches. Even if we lose 4-0 here, it will not be as bad as earlier 4-0 drubbings. We have taken some steps forward. I wish we had bowled better at the tail in this test and had not gone all out when Kohli and Saha were batting in the last game. We are moving ahead in the right direction and hopefully in 12 months time, we will have a much stronger test team.

Adam Voges season by season shield averages, has he ever bashed the door down? Good season followed by lame season. Now looks as good a time as ever to pick him, pity he is 35.

Not really. We were competitive for a test and a half in England in 2011, we were competitive for 1 test last time in Australia. This is pretty similar. It's shaping up to be just as bad because I expect us to completely capitulate in the last 2.

This side has a team which is likely to carry on and build on from here. The middle order and top order are mostly set. You can see some of the bowlers hanging around too. Do you really not see the Indian team improving in 12 months time in tests?

PS - I am liking how we tend to invariably disagree on most points.

Voges is great for ODI cricket. Keeps takings the ones and twos knocking the ball around. I wonder why he did not play more ODI cricket, really.

Just wanted to register my continued disgust at Shane Flogson's selction.

:@:@:@
I'd love to dump him but the selectors won't. Especially if Marsh is not fit. Look I'd be all for stamping Smarsh's passport and moving on with someone else but that won't happen either.

Expert medical opinions from the commentary team. That nice. They arent talking out of their ass at all.
NOW HIRING: Cricket Commentator. An understanding of the game is unnecessary, but should be familiar with all the most common cricket clichés and misconceptions. Must be able to speak out of ass at Law degree level or above.

Nah, don't agree - bloke who's come back from injuries as early in his career, as serious and as often as he's had to do doesn't lack toughness (had back stress fractures 3x in his teens and has had just about every other ****ty injury at least once ever since). Not to mention being an all rounder who bats high and, certainly early on, tried to bowl 140+ ain't easy on the body. Picture below sums up the problem, tbh.
