10.45 am"India have had a good first day in the Aussie fortress of the Gabba. Wishing West Indies similar fortune at the SA fortress of Centurion. Nothing against SA, but cricket needs a strong West Indies. Sadly (albeit for good reasons), we never saw the 1976 South African team (G Pollock, B Richards, Proctor etc) against the West Indies of that era (Roberts, Holding, V Richards etc). Would have been a fascinating contest." ---- True James. But for that fascinating contest, we first need to keep the rain away. Google says a spell like this - "Gods of power, Gods of might, I bid you now, stop this plight, Stop the rain, we need no more, Let it fall, nevermore" - might do the trick. They add that one needs to put a lot of feeling behind it to make it work.
langeveldt to confirm.

Well that was some improvement to Elgar.

Odds on the SA pace radars doing their usual schtick to a lower ranked side and registering Kemar Roach at barely 130 clicks?

That last one kicked up quite considerably for Taylor. Good signs for Morkel.

I really hope Elgar gets some runs today. He really is a good player, he just needs to get comfortable internationally.

This Cottrell guys gets some good movement.

That was some nasty seam movement from Cottrell there. Could be fun if they get it right. Why isn't Roach opening the bowling though?

Is that a recent thing?

An argument could certainly be made that SA speedos underwhelm the actual speed in general, but I hadn't heard of anything about opposition in particular.

Just something I've noticed, though tbf they do it to themselves sometimes so I was being snarky. I know Steyn always bowls mid 130s in his first spell but there have been times where he's apparently medium pace and Morne is barely squeaking above 140.

Then Australia tour and they ramp the guns up.

Ball definitely moving and jumping quite a bit here. Looked like a Vern pitch. He'd have had West Indies a couple down already if he'd had the chance.

Yeah I've always wondered how reliable our speeds actually are. Steyn certainly doesn't look to be bowling 135-odd most of the time.

These two need to get it a little bit fuller. Atm they look good but they're going to be unlucky (TM) if they keep this length.

That or get Roach on. He'll pitch it up.
