Well the diagnostics have gone on for a lengthy time on this match; so maybe a change of pace(NO pun intended). I have seen a reasonable amount of Dave Warner and his approach to the game, his method of scoring runs, with the exception of "that" reverse shot of course, and I firmly believe he could be a reincarnation of Don Bradman. I have seen Bradman take a rising ball on the Off and hook it to square leg for a boundary. Now Warner may not have the capacity to do that yet but hell he's awful close.IMPO he is closer to Bradman than Tendulkar is. Only time will tell if my surmising is correct but I have seen a lot of both players and the similarity is astounding. Bradman has set a standard in statistics I feel NO ONE will surpass but Dave Warner will give it a bloody good go

@Virya

Some years ago (about ten) I remember being sick of hearing the following story

"Sehwag has modeled his game on Tendulkar's - and in one world cup match Tendulkar square cut Akhtar for six. Two overs later Sehwag did the same shot!!!!!"

I have put 4 exclamation marks there because whoever was forcing that story down my throat was basically orgasmic as they relived it.

Personally I don't think their games are similar except possibly for their on drives through mid wicket. But at the time Tendulkar was god and the concept of another batsman modelling himself after God made for a good story.

The other quote that was shoved down my throat by rabid fans was "Cricket is like a religion in India". It seemed to me at the time that at your 21st birthday in India you were taken aside and told to force those two statements upon anyone who would listen.

I don't know where I am going with this - just some random rant. Ignore me carry on as before.

Virat Kohli (c)
I don't think he would've survived long enough.. if he had pulled off another 6 and then Kohli told him to hold an end maybe we won't be having this conversation..
It was an Adelaide day 5 pitch. Spinning bit but not crazy
Why the **** can't he last long? If he can't why us he batting 7 for India?

Saha could have survived. It was a dumb shot. Rush of blood.

Rohit's entire innings was hopeless. He looked lost. It was so sad.

Whatever it takes!!!
Saha has a good technically correct game when he wants to play properly.. I think it was a gameplan for him to go out and attack Lyon as much as he could.. Not sure if it was his own or was under instructions (and whose instructions is another question) but fair to say it was a strategy that was tried and it failed... I don't think it is something that bad that we should be calling for his head.. He is anyways gonna make way for Dhoni but I would like to think that if it wasn't so, he would have gotten another game...

haddin will have the captaincy as a fill in until clarke actually confirms that he is retired. which may or may not happen. probably not i reckon, until after the ashes.

buck rogers needs to go, he wont make england. clarke's injury saved haddin most of all i reckon.

Is Bailey really that bad in the Whites? I think he will make a decent enough middle order bat for Australia in the SC conditions and if he can hold his own even a little bat as a batsman at #5 for Australia, I would think he is the ideal guy for them to lead Steve Smith through a vice captaincy experience before he is ready to take over...

Saha clearly given team orders to play that attacking role in the hope he got out in a lol-worthy way so his imminent dropping to bring back MSD looks fractionally less unjustifiable than it otherwise would have been.

The ND Agribusiness has nothing on India Cements.

Bailey can barely score runs in the Shield atm and isn't really a lock for the ODI team either (hasn't done much since the Indian tour last year). If Clarke is fit for the World Cup I could see him missing out if he doesn't get back into form soon.

Is there a reason why Joe Burns doesn't get many mentions as a test squad chance? I only have averages to go on so he could be poop for all I know but his record shines above the ho hum who seem to always be there or thereabouts.

Joe Burns would most likely be on the radar but I doubt the selectors want to go with him just yet. While he hasn't had a truly poor season at Shield level throughout his career this year is the first year that he's actually gunned it with a 50+ average. He's typically scored 2 centuries a season with a few 50s and he's pretty much already matched that this season. I could see him getting a call up if he finishes the season well (and Rogers, Watson or Shaun Marsh fail) but he probably shouldn't be in contention right now and ideally held off until next season (hopefully selected after starting the Shield season strongly) and given a home debut.

He also didn't set the world on fire when selected for the A team and struggled in County Cricket a few years back but he has improved significantly since then. His versatility will be a big asset and he could potentially bat anywhere from 1-6 which will be useful with a few positions likely to be up for grabs.

As it stands though I'd pick Cowan over him if we needed an opener and probably Voges for a short term middle order slot (Clarke replacement). Ideally Burns comes in at 3 in the Medium-Long term or 5 and then shifted to 3 (since we have few other decent options for this position).

it was a shambolic declaration from australia they should have batted another 6 overs in morning and added another 40 runs to make the game safe, this has to be one of the worst declarations i have ever seen and has gifted india the test match on a flat track
australia where thinking the foot marks would help lyon, that is like playing the lottery some spin sharp and some not, and also this is not a fast medium bowlers pitch. It looks like australia will go down in history in cricket for the wrong reasons by declareing 2 times in a match and managing to lose.
how is the weather for tomorrow ..think pacers are going to hurt us more than Lyon..looking forward to a good defensive performance from the team ..
just caught up through the whole thread. some great analysis here.

Agree about Burns. Ideally you'd want him to churn out runs at FC level a while yet. The selectors favour Marsh in Clarke's absence but he has to be a chance with Rogers and Watson wobbly.

Preferably you'd like Marsh to do the same but that's never stopped him.

i'd have burns the next man in after marsh

he's also more likely to make some big bash runs that will get the cricket media types like warne and healy excited whereas im not even sure if cowan is signed to a big bash team

Fair on the lack of a big season thing, but I guess my next question is why ignore him in favour of a spud like Shaun Marsh? You know what Shaun Marsh will bring - the occassional genius ton against an awesome attack interspersed with nicking off to Elton Chigumbura (sorry Elton) for 12.
