Watlings last ten ODI innings (excluding a 33 over bash and smash game)

Runs BF SR
1 6 10
7 23 30
2 6 33
20 40 50
12 33 36
45 78 58
15 26 58
55 86 64
40 47 85
72 62 116

Where he did ok were the 9th and 10th games on the list - more recently he went into his shell.

I think what really hinders his perception on CW is the 55(86) and the way he went about it. He waited for the bowlers to bowl in his scoring areas and then picked them off and blocked and left everything else. That is basically an up tempo test match innings.
Based on past form for the black caps he doesn't "get it".

That said his SR in the link you posted was awesome and he did do well on the A team tours everyone - well not everyone - just some of us - remember his international performances against better bowling.
Cheers, I was beginning to wonder why my recent memory of Watling in ODI's wasn't quite as rosy as others. Although as Flem said, it would be interesting to know his batting position in those innings.

In that middle bit from the West Indian tour to England at home was the 59 part. He actually opened in a couple of innings there so I got my stats wrong (I thought he was #3 - #6 during that entire period) and his most aggressive substantial knock was 96* from 88 balls against Sri Lanka.

I'm confident he's improved his OD batting since then too so I don't see any reason why we shouldn't give him a run before the World Cup. We're giving Devcich games ffs.

I'm not taking it out because it's a legit one day game which shows he can score quickly when the situation demands (in this case, a rain shortened affair) and it doesn't suit my argument so nuh uh, it stays.:p

So with Baz back at the top of the order, Latham's basically auditioning for the number five spot now. Hopefully he scores some runs tonight.

Hard to argue the against the Devcich point tbf.

I also don't know why you dropped the england games from your calculations. If I didn't know you better I would use the term cherry picking.

Oh well, although statistics don't work this way, let's hope NZ save some Toss luck for the WC games.

That's now 9 out of the last 10 for Pakistan I think.

This is one of those bad days for McClenaghan, where the inherent randomness in his bowling comes out all bad.

One of those bad hair days too. Oh man.

Why on earth would you send in Shafiq and Younis after such an explosive start?

Safraz, Umar, heck Afridi are right their.

Absurd.

Keeping half an eye on this. How has Henry bowled? I see he's been tonked.

Brave attack combination but we had to try this at some point to both give the two allrounders some responsibility and test how the team copes.

Yeah, but Devcich is only in the team as an opener, so they're not in competition for the same spot.

I get the feeling if someone really puts their hand up he will stay at 5 - so it isn't a done deal but it is probably good news.

I wonder how this changes people's line ups. Probably good news if you are a Munro or a Neesham. That said unless Munro gets some game time soon it is curtains for him.
I have slightly mixed feelings about McCullum opening. On one hand I'm happy because it's his correct position and he should have never moved down, but on the other hand it just moves the hole in our lineup from opener to 5 and we've been trialing openers for the last two series, not 5s. With Anderson and Ronchi down there already, Neesham or Munro just seems like too much icing and a collapse waiting to happen.

It'll be interesting if Devcich continues to post good scores in this series. That might muddy the waters a bit.

I've only just tuned in, so I've only seen his two PP overs, but he bowled well in those. The ball that got Shafiq was a good one, swinging in through the gate.

That wasn't a wide and the next ball wasn't a NB. The Umpire is getting a little ridiculous.

EDIT: the wicket taking ball was bowled higher than the one called a NB.
