I will reserve my judgement until Boult has another go at ODI's, he has come a long way over the last year or so.

Boult, yes. NcCullum, I'm not sure. You know how much Hesson loves to play two spinners. I think he might like to have that option if the pitch is a turner.
I've said it before but I think a more important consideration is that Vettori is pretty liable to just come up stiff and miss one game. He's probably the most likely player to need to miss just one or two games, so having backup for him in the squad is important.

Great score to wake up to. Saw Henry and Milne on the news. Fap fap fap. Southee, Henry and Milne would be a left field and brave trio for the world cup but fmd they would be so good to watch, even if it fell apart.

Mills is coming home with an injury, so we'll get to see more of Henry and Milne. I hope it's not serious because regardless of who we pick for the World Cup I want a full deck of pacers as insurance against injury.

Milne gets fined 15% of his match fee for his parting words to Afridi.

Btw, can anyone think of a reason why spraying profanities at a batsman before he is dismissed is fine, but doing the same after a wicket has fallen is a breach of the code of conduct?

Both should get fined. I am CW's most ardent anti sledging campaigner.
However the logic amongst people who make the rules (who don't think like me) is that swearing at a batsman after he is out is more cowardly as the batsman can't respond by hitting you for six next ball.

So essentially swearing during general play and telling someone you will put them in hospital (called uttering a threat in the real world) is acceptable.

Hope that helps,

McCullum hasn't opened in an ODI since Mar 2011. He's a lock at 5. The second openers spot is the only batting spot (currently) up for grabs. Devcich and Brownlie are currently auditioning...
Couple of months ago, there were talks of Neesham opening with Guptill by the NZ management keeping the WC in the horizon and now Neesham is struggling to find place in the XI

Once dismissed a batsman isn't part of play. It's like swearing at a spectator.

Yes it is a shame, hopefully he can find some form playing domestic cricket as that solves the middle order problem. In an ideal world Ryder would open and McCullum would stay in where he is, he was the final piece of the puzzle, but he blew his last chance.

Good news that McCullum sounds open to it if it becomes a problematic area & it probably makes sense atm. And yes Hurricane, means a great opportunity for Munro to be the man for the PP along with the likes of Anderson & Ronchi.

Isn't that primarily Taylor & Williamson's job? You want a 3rd nurdler in the top 6?
Maybe I'm old fashioned but when I see hitters starting at five I think a line up lacks cake.
Gotta be Latham or Watling to knock it around in the middle overs.[/QUOTE

I've posted the stats before. When Watling got recalled he averaged 59 and struck at 75 until he got put up to open. The strike rate sounds 5 runs too low but bear in mind he was recalled during that period where we toured the likes of the West Indies and Sri Lanka with a second or third string squad and he had a lot of rebuilding work to do.

Went hunting to find who scored some runs in the Ford Trophy last year to see if I could promote a left field selection but turns out the usual suspects did the bulk of the minimal run scoring last year. Only 5 tons in the entire competition.

Cricket Records | Records | The Ford Trophy, 2013/14 | Most runs | ESPN Cricinfo

Does support my Watling agenda though.
Be right back - I will give you a solid answer shortly - just have to check something out on cricinfo

Watlings last ten ODI innings (excluding a 33 over bash and smash game)

Runs BF SR
1 6 10
7 23 30
2 6 33
20 40 50
12 33 36
45 78 58
15 26 58
55 86 64
40 47 85
72 62 116

Where he did ok were the 9th and 10th games on the list - more recently he went into his shell.

I think what really hinders his perception on CW is the 55(86) and the way he went about it. He waited for the bowlers to bowl in his scoring areas and then picked them off and blocked and left everything else. That is basically an up tempo test match innings.
Based on past form for the black caps he doesn't "get it".

That said his SR in the link you posted was awesome and he did do well on the A team tours everyone - well not everyone - just some of us - remember his international performances against better bowling.
