There were pretty decent foundations laid for a team, it was just that the financial situation and the inability to finish anything other than 4th meant that the more ambitious players wanted to move on. Let's say for instance that in, 2009/10 say, Arsenal win the league and occupy the same sort of positions as Manchester City have done since.I was thinking about this earlier actually. It's not even necessarily a financial thing, but the foundations that Arsenal started to lay for a good team in that period didn't work out well at all. There were so many players who either didn't quite make the grade/turned out to be really crap/got injured/got sold/now play for a rival.
In fact the only players from that period I can think of who don't fit one of the above criteria are Walcott and Gibbs. And given their record with injuries, I'm probably being a bit generous with their exemption.
Yeah, maybe. For me though there's a difference (albeit perhaps only a slight one) between "having the building blocks for a good side" and "having a side that's mainly made up of mediocre to crap players, with a few good ones".Well yeah but the point I'm making is that we had the building blocks of a decent side, we've just managed to lose most/all of the best players in the last 5 years.
Yeah, but they didn't win the league on any of these occasions, and that's kind of my point.Nah, I think Arsenal would've really been set had they won the league in 2007-08 or 2009-10. I mean, they've stayed top 4 in England and top 16 in Europe despite the best players regularly leaving. If they hadn't we would've been in such good positions.
Being generous with weeks aren't you? Swear you wanted him out when you were waltzing the fourth division. Basically, tbf to you, everything you said back then seems to be bearing fruit now.The entire club is a ****ing shambles.
Off the field is an entirely separate issue but on field we're just chock full of piss poor players with a "coaching" staff that are utterly inept.
McCoist should have been sacked weeks ago.
If it helps I feel like giving up after Ramsey's injury. Also, hey guys, let's talk some more about Arsenal we defo don't do that enough
