yeah well the powers that be were probably assuming ND would make the final on the back of their ten million twirlers suffocating batsmen on their slow low tracks.

Yeah, well they won't be winning any games in the CT qualifiers
This. Strange scheduling by NZ Cricket, rewards teams who don't have many players in NZ team, which increase the chance we don't send our strongest team to CT, which increases chance of embarrassing 1st round knockout with flow-on effects for future tournaments ...

Hey at least there's absolutely zero chance of any of our players being unavailable due to being pinched by the IPL teams.

And Wellington did win the List A comp last year, so it's not like this is completely out of the blue. I hope Jeets isn't hurt too bad though, that limp didn't look good...

Power Papps, Pollard, Blundell, Hodge, Elliott, Franklin, Ronchi, Woodcock, Jeets, Gillespie, Hutchinson/Arnel

Some good bits and some bad bits.

No it keeps going until the end of all three domestic comps. Vandem (131) leads. Athlai 94.

Would have been waaay more ahead had I remembered to send updates on Sat and Sun morning, knew it was one weekend too far for ND, too much batting experience in the Auck and Welly teams.

It was a seven-year deal with Sky ftr. Locked the tournament into Nov/Dec for the length of the contract.

NZ isn't often touring overseas in November though, so all the best guys will tend to be around, getting ND qualified more often than not.

Plunket Shield resumes on Thursday, **** yeah!

Biggest interest I think will be Wagner's form, plus mystery opener (not Brownlie as in UAE) so shoot out between Rutherford and Flynn?

Brownlie's good List A form on 'A' tour actually hampering his career here ( or NZCs scheduling is). He still hasn't opened the batting in a single FC match.

Can't see Flynn being picked again. Shame that Papps won't be considered.

Think choice is between BMac continuing to open or Rutherford.

Important season for Raval and Bracewell, although with Latham now a fixture they'd have more chance if they turned around in their batting stance ...

Why...

I don't think he would succeed either but I think he would average 28-30 runs and be more consistent than Hamish. That isn't much praise since anything less than 35 avg doesn't work out well.

Flynn's problem is that he's had two reasonable chances in the test side, and not many batsmen get a 3rd chance (can't think of any in last 20 years apart from Skippy). 4 x 50s in his first set of 16 tests, 2 x 50s in his second set of 8 tests. Not a total failure, not a success.

I actually agree, I think Flynn is done as an international player. But he was pretty hard done by second time around. One test against South Africa at home, his comeback test. Then went, two tests in the West Indies, India, Sri Lanka and South Africa before being dropped again, before the home series against England. Not to mention being shunted all around the batting line up.

Yeah it's a shame that it didn't work out in international cricket for Flynn as I always thought he had what it took to succeed at the top level. I wouldn't complain if he got bought back in, but I think they've gone past him now.

Hmmm. Weather forecast looking awful for this week's Plunket Shield game at the Basin. If it gets fully rained out, then the Basin's first game of the season will be the Test match. Blimey.

Fulton, perhaps not. I count his 18 tests in 2006 - 2008 as one spell in the team, I know he wasn't picked for tests in 2006-7 season but he was still in the ODI squad, and he was always the last middle order batsman picked in the test side, which meant he sometimes missed out as Oram was injured / not injured and Skippy had his next chance and Taylor arrived.

Vincent, OK. Had forgotten that he had a 1 test "3rd chance". 15 tests 2001 - 2003 as opener or #3. 7 tests 2005 as middle order bat. 3rd chance, 1 test in SA in 2007 as opener again.
