***Official*** England in Sri Lanka 2014

Sri Lanka are making a bit of a meal of this, a couple of quick wickets and it could get interesting.
Reminds me of the old days when Aravinda does all the work and SL still **** the chase up.. Angelo usually takes care of business but he's really struggling here.

He averages 36 at a 100 SR in List As with 8 tons from 84 innings.. I don't think he's just a 20 over slogger.
Not hugely impressive in our domestic cricket though, compare it to Taylor or Buttler's record.

I've an open mind about him TBH, but he's not got an outstanding case really.

I just think he deserves more than 5 ODIs to prove his worth.. Now Eng are just running out of time for the WC but they should've given him a run much earlier.

I always worry when teams take it so late like this. 9 times out of 10 they win anyway but it opens up the choke factor so much. SL should still win this in the last over, but as if it needed to get this deep.

Angelo has had a tough time adjusting to the pitch or this game would've been over already.. but yea this should never have gotten to the last over..

I agree really, but he needed to make a big impact here, which he's failed to do, quite spectacularly. Would rather have him in my squad over Bell.

Well we didn't panic and while we took almost all of the 50 overs I felt that was a pretty comfortable chase, so it proved that England fell short while they batted as we all suspected

Deserves the chance to fail and all that, Taylor certainly is more worthy of a spot but they play different roles. I would obviously like to see Vince have a go at the top as well but he has never done it for the lions so I can't really complain.

Flibberty was saying similar things about Buttler not all that long ago.

Yeah; those numbers wouldn't be getting him in the side unless he had other things going for him though.
I think I just rate him after seeing his T20I ton - Eng need someone who can make a 90 ball hundred at the top of the order (Ali has been doing that this series tbf)..

Didn't rate Buttler for tests, wasn't convinced about him for ODI's but he proven me wrong. Not sure Hales will. Just saying what I think, better than sitting on a fence and getting splinters. Some you win some you lose.

Reckon Herath is slightly stiff to miss out on the player of the match award there, he was easily the best bowler on show today

Yea I think he deserved it more.. got the crucial break-through and was the most convincing bowler.. SL had the upper hand going into the chase.

Yeah not having a go. Joss was always class though.

I am not at all convinced by Hales either, if we were starting the World Cup tomorrow I would probably not pick him (what with Cook certain to play) but he should be playing all these games.

I wouldn't be picking Cook but that is another thing. Hopefully after the WC he retires from shorter versions and we start building straight away with a younger side. I would have preferred Vince to Hales but even with Hales he has been picked too late really to be given a fair crack for the WC even if I don't think he'd be good enough.

I think our planning for this tournament is as bad as any I can remember and we have had some shockers over the years.

Strange really, I think this tour has gone okay.

1 win, two tight matches, better than I expected which was a royal thrashing. Plus points, Moeens form, Taylor getting a chance and delivering, and despite some wides Jordan has looked good with the ball. Good performances at times from Root, Bop, Morgan too. With Jimmeh and Broad back they may do okay in Oz.

Hales, Stokes and Finn the major disappointments, along with Cook being Cook.

I mean the whole year. Chopping and changing and picking then dropping Ballance for no real reason, still not having a top 3 sorted just a few weeks away from the thing starting. Finn looks to have gone backwards again so what the hell have they done to him?

He's not gone backwards, he's just not been the same since his needed change of action, taking wickets in County cricket is pretty meaningless. Have to say I'd go for Rankin ATM, and he's not very good. I like Brooks, but I'm not sure if he'd translate. Plunkett's list A record isn't great but he has had some success in Oz so maybe worth a thought.

As for the mucking about with the top 3, it's genuinely #Trottsfault, we just can't replace him, and we seem to not know what to do about it.
