Dunno about in India/Aus, but it's not uncommon at all in bereavement cases in the UK. Would usually be a close relative not a team mate of course, but it's simply untrue that no one gets months to recover before going back to work.
I don't think it's quite the same, though. For one there's Burgey's point, but for two he died during a game of cricket (I still can't believe I'm writing that), so whatever escape or distraction cricket may bring is gone.

I'm with Jono - the players should make the call, unpressured and unquestioned.

News of the death of Ben Hollioake came a few minutes after start of play in a NZ v England Test,

Play continued.

That was an occasion that,.like the Pakistan v NZ game today, should have seen play suspended for the day. How the likes of Graham Thorpe took the field that afternoon I do not know.

But, hard as it is sometimes, life goes on.

Those close to the Australian team will see if someone is really in no condition to play - and they should suffer no penalty if they drop out.

For others it may be cathartic and a necessary part of the grieving process.

The game should go ahead, and I sure it will, but with appropriate respect from both sides to the memory of Phil Hughes. Should the funeral occur during the game play should be suspended while it is on.

I'm a firm believer in celebrating the life and this is a rare and wonderful way to do it.

Yea I don't know if fast bowlers around the world are going to be willing to bowl short and quick anytime soon after this news.
Oh I'm sure they will. It's whether the batsmen will be willing to pull and hook them that's the big question.

I don't get why people (everywhere, not referring to CW here) are so strongly saying it definitely should go ahead or it definitely shouldn't. Its baffling that people think there is a "should" in any of this.

Its purely a decision for the players with CA consultation. If it is played can't see how it is somehow "wrong". If you don't feel comfortable watching fine, but if the players want to go out as a way to honour Phil that's not a bad thing.

Just the same if the players don't want to play, no one should find that decision controversial at all. "The show must go on" is not a hard and fast rule by any stretch.

We should shift the series over to India where there's no danger of the upper body being in any danger.

Goodness, some folk in here must've had fantastically carefree lives. Grief is an atrocious, all-consuming beast.

David Warner just watched his teammate die on the field. And yet you'd have him make a decision on whether to play or not. This isn't an unrelated tragedy - the tragedy and the task could not be more heavily similar.

The administration are there to organise and make decisions. You take any burden possible from the players and onto yourself, and give the poor blokes some time.

Exactly this. Should be 100% up to the players to see how they feel about going out there. It's easy to see why they may not feel up to it, but as you said there shouldn't be any rules about who wants to play and who doesn't.

What I would do if I were in the players shoes? I dunno.

I made the same post earlier ****
This has happened to me a lot, too. I make a post which gets no attention, then Jono makes the same point but gets 24 likes, PEWS says he's the best poster on the forum and Tendulkar gives him a signed abdomen guard.

Reckon it's to balance out all the times he's called a **** by other peple for cheap likes.

Would like Warner to have a great series. For Hughes. If he chooses to play. Wouldn't think any less of players who choose to opt out or even if the thing is called off.

Channel Nine are reporting that the Hughes family want the Gabba Test to go ahead

"He would want that. And he so wanted to be there".

Very good, if very, very hard from watch presser, from Sutherland + Howard + Jones just now basically reiterated that they aren't even thinking about that question yet.
