The Dorff is a Canberra boy too, so yeah a big chance he's debuting Wednesday - he better not be injured brockers, can you phone the WACA admin please?

Forkers has gone from ICC ODI team of the year to not getting a look in.. I don't think the selectors trust him to keep it tidy enough.

Thing I like is that Ferg put the pressure on himself before the season started. I've been as big a critic of his guilded ride to FC cricket as anyone so that was a bit of a surprise but he's certainly delivered so far. I don't think he's that close to a Test spot but I'd say he's not far off either. Good on him because he's actually a really sweet bloke.

I've always said that Ferguson wasn't likely to perform much worse (if at all) at Test level than whatever he was doing domestically, because his problems were largely mental and not tied to the quality of the bowling. The problem of course was that his domestic performances, even if replicated completely, wouldn't have been good enough at Test level. It's definitely a bit different now though; I wouldn't be opposed to him getting a run if playing both Watson and Marsh doesn't work out (as I suspect it won't).

Realistically who would be in line ahead of him for any middle order positions at the moment?

I've been an advocate for his inclusion in the test team for years, thought admittedly the basis behind this has never been any more complicated than "C Ferg, WAG :wub:" :p

The offseason Australia A games are probably a good indicator.. but to be fair he played in those. Here's who seemed to be in contention back then:

(Warner
Rogers
Watson
Clarke - injured
Smith
Marsh
Haddin)

Hughes
Doolan
Forrest
Cooper
Ferguson
Lynn
Wade

(Stoinis
Nevill
Henriques
Faulkner
Whiteman)

Top group seems to be in the first XI. I think if you add Shaun Marsh who was injured to the middle group then that's loosely who'd be in contention. Quite a few have started the season well really, but given Ferguson seemed to be back in the selectors minds even before he started scoring lots of runs this season I think he'd be right in line now. The bottom group all batted in the top order for Australia A too but they weren't really there as specialist bats.

Would enjoy mad dog going real large tomorrow. Great to see the younger players getting runs and making their case for selection.
