Seeing Ames' career summary, was pretty awesome v every team except Australia.

This reminds me of India's first-ever test match. Ames and Jardine saved England's first innings from a collapse. India had an awesome opening bowling combination of Nissar and Amar Singh. But India's batting lineup was not test standard.

Making 180 in both innings im England with no real experience of the conditions is not poor at all. Particularly considering how India performed in England in 96 or 2011 or 2014.

Ya the batting lineup performed beyond expectation.

But the bowling was really good. In fact the Indian bowling lineup in their first test was perhaps better than England's.
