In other words, that's the case when the umpire asks the other about carries and such.

Sure he has, he's actually picking his balls quite well - he's looking to defend the flatter balls but the moment he sees flight, he's backing himself and the field at the moment suits him hitting over the top. I think it's great intent, I'm more worried about him getting sawn off going back to the spinners.
