Wade's selection is difficult to understand as he should be behind virtually every keeper at fc level in the country atm

I can understand them wanting to see young guys like Whiteman play more fc but surely Hartley or Paine could have been given a go

Truly astounding

Think it's probably down to the fact that he's best suited out of all the keepers to coming in at 7 where Haddin has been. Paine and Hartley aren't as explosive with the bat and have to open to be effective OD players; whereas Wade can do more at the end of the innings.

Logic is sound but ignores the fact that his batting was very ordinary during the BBQ Cup

If they were after a hitter/keeper, might as well have picked Dunk for the ODIs as well

Sends out a terrible message to pick someone that has been in ordinary form for the better part of a year IMO

As Vic alludes to, Tim Luderman and maybe Ryan Carters aside, all the keepers are batting in positions totally different to what they will encounter in the Australian set-up. It makes it a bit hard to pick the keeper. I thought they might have repeated the Dunk selection but I can't really get too angry at the Wade selection.

obviously i would have just picked a specialist keeper though

His ODI career has been terrible as well. In Tests he at least scored some valuable runs while dropping hundreds of catches; he's been diabolical with the bat in ODI cricket, and even domestically all his OD success has come in the top order rather than where he's going to bat.

I think this is how I would've gone actually, but Dunk too is a lot more suited to opening.

If he had been wearing the gloves (and not doing an awful job of it) then Carters excellent finishing record in the BBQ cup should have made him a very strong show, but without having kept in anger for a very long time I can't really fault not going that way. Wade though...

Yeah, I can't blame them for not doing it, but it would have been pretty cool to see Carters get into the ODI team.

riggins how do you rate dunk with the gloves? seem's to me the mostly likely to smash quick runs at the end of the innings out of the candidates

cribb's right wade's odi batting numbers are rank, even ranker than i expected, has done literally nothing of note.

i wouldnt have been unhappy seeing hartley in the team tbf, at least you could say he's earned it

I genuinely can't recall ever watching him keep?

Surely he can't be as bad as Wade though. I reckon Paine's comfortably the best keeper of the lot but obviously then you have the issue about picking 8 openers again and he isn't that good a batsman.

Dropped a sitter of a hat-trick ball of Siddle (from memory), after which Handscomb became keeper in Victoria.

He's solid, certainly not on the Nevill level (who I rate the highest).

He never played for Vic did he?

Edit - the internet reminds me it was Carters who dropped that catch. typical nsw spud.
