Random awesome match: Angle vs. Rey, SummerSlam 2002. One of the best opening matches I can ever remember.

Did Bret vs. Owen open Wrestlemania 10?

Yeah I'm sure it was, as was that Triple H vs. Taker match a few years back everyone kept raving about. For whatever reason, I just literally stopped watching in 2006. Just couldn't watch anymore and I've had 0 interest ever since. Not sure exactly why, but I reckon I couldn't even sit through a "stereotypically" awesome PPV main event now.

Wasn't even that I "grew" out of it (though age perhaps played a part), I just think the death of Eddie was it for me. Was gutted.

Had I been watching in 07 I know for sure I'd have quit once the Benoit incident happened as well.

And if Bret Hart returning didn't get me back, nothing will. Forever  Bret.

One thing I do regret is missing main eventer Edge and "King Booker" actually. Backed those guys for ages and didn't see them rise and win the title.

Main event Edge was gun. Probably the best heel since you stopped watching tbh. The Jericho vs Edge World Title match/feud at whatever Wrestlemania it was, was excellent.

The whole King Booker thing was alright, but I always felt his reign as World Champ was a bit underwhelming. Really felt like the title was given to him because there really was nobody else left on that side of the roster to give it to. Smackdown was really terrible around that time iirc. Half the roster was injured/suspended from what I remember.

Love Jericho, WAG.

Favourite 4 of the early to mid 2000s were Benoit, Eddie, Angle and Jericho. First two I don't even need to explain what went wrong with those two, and just never really figured out why Angle went to NWA and what hapened between him and Vince etc but his neck injury seemed ****ed. So knowing that Jericho has at least kept balance and is writing books, and seems like he's in a good spot in life is awesome. Makes me happy for some weird reason.

Re: Angle, I remember Angle was going to do a reality TV show of his life post wrestling and cheating on his wife etc. But that didn't go ahead lol.

I think Kurt went a bit crazy. Apparently Vince told him to kick the painkillers and Angle told him to GAGF, and that was that.

It is great that Jericho turned out well and is still going strong though. Some of his very best work came after he returned and became world champion. Bloke totally redesigned his character but was still just as awesome as before. His books are quite a good read as well, very insightful. Though he does come across as being a bit of a smug douchebag in places imo. Still love him though.

On an unrelated note, I overheard someone calling someone else an "egomaniac" the other day, and it just reminded me of JR's commentary re: heel Jericho back around 2002 or whenever it was. Just made me laugh. Wouldn't mind being called an egomaniac if it meant I was somehow like Y2J tbh.

Think Smackdown reached it's lowest point around the time Khali became world champion. Just so terrible. Atleast we had that awesome HBK-Jercho feud... otherwise it wouldve been unbearable

Just on SummerSlam 2002 - Rock losing to Brock about as unselfish as anything I may have ever seen in wrestling.

Also, love the way Jericho always, always puts over the younger guys (even though I would love to see him win more), and just his general attitude to wrestling in general, as well as his position in the wrestling world.

"Getting dragged kicking and screaming out of the ring, begging for mercy from whoever it is that fired me, never to be seen again. That’s how I want to go out. Yeah, I don’t want any hero’s goodbye or big send off. I don’t want a retirement ceremony. That’s not how I go. I just want to disappear into the sunset and have everyone go ‘Man, that guy was a jerk, wasn’t he? Wow, I’m glad he’s gone'”

Ha, my Jericho post about him putting people over was completely coincidental, but yeah I agree. Rock was always excellent at putting people over. Including Jericho actually. Remember him losing the WCW title to Jericho at No Mercy in 2001, then shaking his hand afterwards. Such a champ.

Booker and Regal pretending to be royalty sounds like comedic gold though.
