Lol Deano, who gives a **** how far down the pitch you are. If you don't hit it, it hits your pad in line and its going to hit the stumps you're out. Shut up.

Marsh was SOOO far down the pitch there. That would never ever have been given out 15+ years ago. Old codgers always bang on about how much easier batting is these days and that's a great example of a way it isnt.

Yep that observation is fair. But then saying "it shouldn't be out" Deano style is going too far.

The one way, frankly.

It's a huge game changer

One of my early coaches drummed into me "if in doubt, pad out" as you'd never be given

Pommie umpires used to be happier to give the odd one out on the front dog, didn't they? I know Aussie umpires didn't. Maybe it was being conditioned on the bounce here.

In the old days the subcontinental umpires would give them, but only for the visiting teams. They've always had a second rate, cheating cricketing culture in those parts. The good thing was, back then no one really cared because no amount of cheating could make up for how atrocious they were, and we were spared ever having to watch it on tv.

It doesn't have to be the team you support, just the team you'd prefer to win a given match.

Like when Stalinist Russia used to play India. I'm no supporter of either, but I used to hope Russia would win.
