Chuckers

There must be some way it can be measured. The current chucking laws are an absolute nonsense as it is.
There really isn't. Not to a level which would withstand a court challenge, anyway. And there's no impetus (to my knowledge) to throw research $ at it either.

Bruce Elliott was the CI on the last study which modelled a lot of things that had never been modelled before in cricket using well-developed techniques which had been used in injury analysis for other sports. So there was a ton of useful information gained from his study which gave a scientific basis to understand all bowlers and to quantify the degrees of breach for most chuckers. A reasonable, scientific definition of what constituted a 'bowl' didn't exist before the late 90's, was entirely down to the umpire's perception of what a bowl looks like, something I doubt many guys doing this **** for a living were comfortable with. Since then, Eliott's published a review paper basically repeating what he said in the earlier paper and identifying where further gaps in the data lay. That was 7 years ago. Nothing since.

Couldn't they just implant some zing bails into the elbow and they would light up if they bend to more than 15 degrees. I guess the main issue would be getting a light bright enough to shine through the human flesh, especially for day matches.

Nah all this "if he's cleared, move on and never dare question him again" is complete rubbish if you ask me. Lots of bowlers who've been cleared once have been tested a second or even third time. Getting cleared by the ICC is not a wonder cure which can completely erase future transgressions too. If a bowler is suspected of throwing and reported again even after being cleared, test him again.

Many a time chucking can become a recurring problem for a bowler. Just because he manages to clean up his action or if his action is clean at a particular time in his career, it doesn't mean he won't ever chuck again. It might seem to people that reporting bowlers time and again after being cleared is just selective targeting or something which causes the player involved a lot of frustration and annoyance. But not being 100% sure of the legality of an action and letting potential chucking go unpunished and worse, uninvestigated is the far greater injustice
Problem is that even the onces that have been never tested also chuck few deliveries here and there. If their is amethod, then it would be to check EVERYONE one field. Not selective bull crap of "clean" or "dodgy" actions to be used to filter whom to test.

I'm sure you already know this, but for the benefit of others reading, it's only illegal if they straighten more than 15 degrees. Perfectly legal to bowl with a bent arm.

For the benefit of others reading, the other issues raised in my post were also questionable.

Attach three spatial alignment sensors - one each to wrist, elbow and shoulder.
Attach electrode to the family jewels.

Input stimulus - Detection of straightening more than 15 degrees.
Response - Deliver electric shock.

Problem solved.

Or you could just wirelessly beam the data to a computer on-site and signal a chuck on the big screen, but my solution is more entertaining.

As long as you keep Harsha Bhogle out of the commentary box.

"Why is that every time a player gets zapped in the crotch, he's the only one who doesn't find it funny?"

**** off, Harsha.

Good to see some responsibility being taken by SLC to fix this problem, can't believe that number though haha

That's what happens when high profile international "bowlers" have illegal or suspect actions. The kids try to emulate them and the problem spreads from generation to generation.

I am yet to see a sri lankan kid trying yo bowl as murali. sri lankan kids are smarter than some CW posters here and they understand unless you have the freak mobility as murali you cannot replicate his action. and btw many of suspect actions in sl are fast bowlers. must have been looking too much in to on mcgrath and pollock I suppose.
