One of the reasons that league backs generally prefer their game to union is that they get far more involved in the former
However, NFL is in a whole different stratosphere and it's not inconceivable that a rookie like Hayne could go weeks without getting near the ball or to making a tackle

the two sports are completely different but the role he plays as a fullback returning kicks is obviously quite similar to that of a punt or kick returner
he must have been given some hope of making it when he went over and trained with seattle for a bit
i'm not sure if he will or not but good luck to him, you have to respect someone giving up a guaranteed million a year contract to have a go at something unknown

Im really excited for Hayne.
I dont agree with the moneys bad comment either. Hayne is going to get some pretty lucrative sponsorship deals out of this and he is going to clock way less minutes, which could actually prolong his nrl career if he was to come back.
Winning the dally m and origin series means hes finished on a high too.

It is yes but I cant believe your knocking a 2 time dally m, a man whos played over 170 Nrl games, 20+ Tests, scored over 100 tries etc for trying something that he is clearly passionate about. Money isnt everything, especially in this case.
Parra should go for Brett Stewart so he can join Choc.

Im not knocking him. He is a great League player and fair play to him if this is his passion. It just seems bizarre to have left it this late in his career and with so little chance of making a 53 man squad, let alone getting any playing time on offense or defense. Quoting his League achievements isnt relevant though in an American football context. Id question Phil "The Power" Taylor as well if he wanted to play basketball. Doesnt mean he isnt fantastic at what he does.

Judging by some of the comments made by the Seahawks' hierarchy overnight, I reckon that Hayne is a lot further down the track than we first gave him credit for being and it would not surprise at all if he at least made a practice squad

He's the best player in the NRL (well, one of the top 2 or 3), who says he can't do that? Just because he has to learn doesn't make him incapable of it. I know people give NRL players hard time about their intellect but it's not like 99% of the NFL is any smarter. Half the 49ers defence is in gaol atm ffs.
Personally I think he would be better off trying to make it on the defensive side of the ball. He has to learn to read the game anyways, and I think with his speed, agility and tackling ability he would make a decent outside linebacker in the blitz rushing the passer assuming he could gain a little size. I'm not sure route-running would be his thing, especially as he's not particularly tall.
