I don't agree with that at all. Obviously none of the players you fit into one category are going to be exactly the same. I found the blurring of Lambert and Carroll together as "target men" a bit irritating, for example, because they're such different players. But they're more similar than either are to Sturridge or Rooney or Defoe. It's still definitely a useful tool.

Ok, well, it's perhaps not as bad as the formation talk, but it still grates with me, largely for the reasons you have stated. It's not so bad to hear specific roles mentioned fleetingly, but occasionally you come across people who when participating in discussions are overly reliant on terms like regista/trequartista/libero/box to box midfielder and so on, and I just find that generally tedious, and think it evinces of a drastic want for understanding what actually football is like (i.e. not like Fifa/Football Manager etc...)

He'll be completely off the pace but you'll find him impossible not to love anyway.

Doubt that one will happen. Fat Sam's Bolton would've brought him in. It was their one redeeming feature that they brought past-it legends to the Premier League where they still looked awesome.

That's true of the England team, save for a few nitwits who think we played well against Italy in the World Cup just because we got the ball in their half a bit more often. We still have to cling on to any tiny scraps of success for our clubs sides - Even 1-0 wins at rubbish dumps like Luton.
