Simpson takes away 55 off your total openers' average though. Not many options here so Bruce Simpson
And i assume Camo will take Gilly, so Alan Knott.
Yea that's a pain. Sutcliffe took 61.Simpson takes away 55 off your total openers' average though.
Does not meet criteria. Not many options here so Bruce Simpson
In which case it kinda takes away the ATG teams thing. Back in the day is was acceptable for keepers to bat lower than #7.Looks like Bagapath wants everyone to have a keeper who is capable of batting at No.7 as there probably won't be enough bowling allrounders who are classy enough to fill that spot in the batting order.
Trying to think of 11 candidates now....
Meh theres better openers than simpson who averaged under 45.Simpson takes away 55 off your total openers' average though.
Evans averaging only 20 at No.7 shows that he was out of his depth, and therefore creates a problem in this kind of draft. In which case it kinda takes away the ATG teams thing. Back in the day is was acceptable for keepers to bat lower than #7.
Really think it should be revised to allow keepers like Godfrey Evans to be selected. If Godfrey Evans can't crack one of the 12 ATG sides selected we need a bit of a revision on the method.
Not having a crack at Bagapath, just think the requirement of batting avg is unnecessary for keepers. Putting a stipulation on %number of matches as keeper is a good idea as it filters out guys like Walcott and maybe Sanga.
Maybe no batting average and at least 75% of matches played as designated keeper?
Incidentally, Evans spent most of his career at 7 and averaged 20 there.
If you really want Evans to keep wickets you can select a batsman-keeper in this round, use him purely as a batter and select Evans in the free round later. In which case it kinda takes away the ATG teams thing. Back in the day is was acceptable for keepers to bat lower than #7.

I'm not arguing (much). I just don't think keepers have to average 25+/need to bat at #7.If you really want Evans to keep wickets you can select a batsman-keeper in this round, use him purely as a batter and select Evans in the free round later.
Clarification: 40 tests. 25 average. 2.5 dismissals/test. All in matches against non minnows playing as designated wicket keeper.
