Silent Auction Draft

weeman27bob

Should probably have been a bit more aggressive there, Vaas isn't really that useful for my team.

Should be able to score a quality opener now though.

International Coach
Miscalculation in the last round and no funds left.

Missed out on the best batting talent round for the draft.

Tactically grabbing a **** player last round for $1 gives me some hope of grabbing a decent player here.

That or I end up with a bench-warming leg-spin duo from the 1940s, in Colin McCool and Doug Ring. At least they know how to cut the oranges and mix the Powerade.

Grabbing one of the openers and shifting Close to 6 would definitely improve your side -- I've seen worse top orders than Boycott/Hobbs/Hazare/Ranatunga/Styris, especially when you bat relatively deep.

And given your funds remaining, I think you're getting one of the openers :p

Missed out on Dale Steyn by $3. Damn you n00fers.

Dominic Cork or Matthew Hoggard as a third seamer? Both pretty similar bowlers with pretty similar records, but Cork with the bonus batting.

Relatively happy with how this XI has come out. World-class opening bowlers, more than handy third seamer, one of the highest quality spinners up for grabs to keep things tight, and Jackson/Macartney are more than capable of churning out 10 overs of quality each per day.

Hoggard's off cutting the oranges and warming the bench, and is more than capable of coming into the XI for a quick without dropping off quality too much. Doug Ring is also very familiar with sitting on the bench while gun teams win everything.

Meanwhile an opening partnership of two unfulfilled talents (Butt was getting pretty good before he got banned), followed up by the man I would argue is close to the best non-Bradman #3 of all time, one of Pakistan's best ever and a Lara clone. Jackson averages nearly 50 in Tests, and the side bats to 10 (Cork has a FC double ton FFS; should arguably bat above Mitch).

And in Healy I have a classy 'keeper.

Pretty frustrated that I've missed out on Dale Steyn by $3 to NUFAN (WAFC), because that would have given me a ludicrously aggressive fast bowling attack (Steyn--Cowie--Johnson would be epic to watch).

Three of Australia's greatest up the top, with the best batsmen not named Hobbs coming in behind them, which hopefully can provide a platform for O'Neill and Borde to play their shots, before Flintoff and Tallon give it a thump. The bowling isn't quite so good, but i have two of the quickest ever in Willis and Sylvers, plus the spinners turn it different ways and capable of tearing teams apart on helpful pitches. Add in Taylors captaincy and the multitude of gun fielders and this is my strongest draft so far.

Thankyou for all the trouble of organising this Monk, definitely one of the better drafts.

Thought the batting looked strongest for the most parts of the draft but with the last pick I think I've made the bowling the strongest. Walsh-Hughes-Peel-Cairns-Goddard is an attack to match most around. No superstar in the batting and a slightly weak top 3, but picked up enough allrounders to stay competitive IMO.

Thanks for the draft Monk, was fun. Shame Bradman didn't pop up

I'm OK with this. Really good Top 4 for this draft - Gavaskar and Miandad are obvious guns, and Slater and Fredericks are nice, aggressive bats. Benaud is a quality all-rounder here and Donald should be gun as the main spearhead. Fletcher and Umrigar aren't dire, Marsh is a decent keeper, Jones was fairly highly regarded IIRC and Kasprowicz is a fine option for that 3rd quick role.

Picking up Statham late was an unexpected bonus. Statham / Shoaib / Miller / Lock are all guns. Plenty of flair with De Silva / Miller / Pataudi in the middle order. Reasonable opening pair.

Selection dilemma with Gomez v Ring. I'll go with Gomez as the default for some extra batting but Ring handy to have in the squad for variety. Dan, I reckon you got McCool instead of Ring?? Kenny to come in when Shoaib is suspended / injured.

Of the slightly weaker spots Reid at #3 has a surprisingly sensational record (no doubt helped by teaching geography instead of making the 84/5 Windies tour!) and Junior Murray's slowest test 100 is probably still quicker than any other ton by a keeper in this draft. I like to think he paved the way for Gilchrist.
