Very poor decision lucky to get off.

Enough about Jadeja though, well done Jimmeh, snarl your way to another hatful at OT and the Oval:thumbs_up

Gee you must have to have a pretty strong disliking of ODI cricket if you want our two best best bowlers (assuming Finn wont be back to his best) to retire six months before the World Cup. I know it's accepted that tests > ODI's on CW, but jesus.

They don't even have to play most of those warm ups (and I doubt they'll play much in SL given the different conditions) but I'm personally really happy we're finally getting some good one day cricket in before a World Cup. Will be crucial for finding a successful team balance, top six, 3rd seamer and potential second spinner.

Yeah, Jimmy will probably retire from ODI's after the world cup so he can chase 500 test wickets. Think most England fans would be happy with that scenario as long as he produces the goods in tests.

As for Broad, should get a long break after this test series to make sure he is fit for the world cup. Take it series by series from there depending on his ailments.

Thank God for lawyers eh?

As Jadeja's experience shows there are far too few people in this world who can get to grips with the standard of proof needed in these sort of cases

I'd hope this close call is enough to remind Anderson to be less of a dick in future, but I fear that'd be wishful thinking

I hope that Gordon Lewis listened to six hours of arguments, then went and opened a cold one and thought 'stuff this'

That is pretty much my feelings. Bunch of children.

I don't want them retired, but I don't want them to play that much before the WC. We're much better giving others a chance, because we'll need more than two-pacers, who could easily get injured, to do well. Gurney, Jordan looked okay, a step-up from Dernbach and Woakes, but let's not kid ourselves they're world-beaters. Think Plunkett should probably play a few, and hopefully Willey can keep up his fitness and form. I do think Finn will be re-integrated into the squad too, but in the end we're not going to know how good any of them are ATM without playing them.

Yeah, I think it's a shame that ODIs are made so completely meaningless by player resting and such, but from a utilitarian team management perspective, this is definitely the best way to go. There's a busy schedule ahead (as stated previously) and several potential contenders to play alongside Anderson and Broad in the World Cup who'd you learn more about (as you stated), so there's little to be gained from an England perspective by either of them playing that many ODIs at all between now and the World Cup.

Yeah, well we've got at least about 15 ODI's after the final test and I wouldn't be surprised if Jimmy and Broad play none in Sri Lanka. They're locks for the side anyway so you'd hope the tri series would just be for them to find form and acclimatise.

Rankin was pretty good in the ODI's at home last year. Has sort of been fazed out after his test match but I hope he's still in the selectors mind. Would be the like for like replacement for Finn if he doesn't show up.

Biggest question is probably whether we go for a Bopara type as fifth bowler or a bowling all-rounder/genuine all rounder at 7. Bopara is a good bowler in England and Asia but not sure his stump to stump mediums are cut out for Australia and New Zealand.

God I hope Plunkett doesn't play ODIs need more men to win the CC.

Presuming Bres gets selected for the ODers at least.

I was thinking this too, but I eventually came to the realisation that most people are far less insistent on five frontline bowlers than me (and you) and that he'd therefore be the fifth bowler anyway. The fact that I rate Bopara's bowling more than most somewhat offsets my fetish for five bowlers.

We do have a chance at winning this series. Considering the number of batsmen misfiring currently, there is good scope for improvement there. Bowling needs some magic with Ishant missing out and Shami not in form. Hopefully Bhuvi recovers for the next test. Regarding Ashwin, I think his stock is growing more from the fact that he is not playing and Jadeja is not performing. Will need to play though.

I hope Moeen can make a mark as a bat, as his overs added to Root/Boppa should be enough for the 5th bowler.
