What a troll last 2 overs. Phew, so happy we managed to survive, a healthy slice of luck (rain, etc) but what a fight to win the series, can imagine the fury of SL fans though.

Now imagine if Matthews had declared some 15-20 overs earlier :D:p

SA have cheated their way to no 1, first they tamper the ball and win the first test, then they escape due to rain in the 2nd test, undeserved winners.

Surviving 111 Overs in conditions we continuously get told we are useless in? by the skin of our teeth? and saved by the rain? hahaha

Fantastic performance by south africa to win this series.

Mathews can surely feel some regret for not declaring sooner.

Yes it was an odd declaration given the way South Africa had batted in their first innings - telegraphing their intentions. A target of 300 would have been more than enough given that, an older pitch and Sri Lanka needed to win. Cricket is a risk-reward game and he got it wrong.

Fair play to South Africa though, did what they needed to do and didn't protect their individual averages.

Think that is a bit unfair. Sri Lanka won a very fortuitous toss and SA had to bat last on a surface taking spin with the home side stacked with slow bowlers. As it turned out they bowled the requisite number of overs on the last day so the rain only robbed Lanka of extra overs they may have been trying to rush through. Remember quality is more important than quantity. The declaration was far too late. SA one up in the series would not have been targeting a huge chase.

Well done to Sri Lanka in this test, they were by far the better team, simply resisted by a team refusing to lose away... (if only we could replicate this at home)

Note that last match Amla declared before expected in more batting friendly conditions and the home side could not survive.

20 overs were lost on day 4 enough to get these last 2 wickets, Australia will be back to no 1 playing aggressive cricket, SA **** blocked their way to no 1.

16 years since South Africa lost a test match after their captain scored a hundred. Amla following Smith’s lead.

Sri Lankas strike rate in this series was 84 balls per wicket in turn south africa bowled 55 balls per wicket.

Pretty good for a team playing outside their home conditions without a spinner in Sri Lanka.

Whole rankings thing is pretty silly - win series, people know who the good (or rather form) teams are.

Anyway glad I tuned into that, great battle -- coulda gone either way.
