In the 2000s Thilan/Hashan/Dilshan (when he batted in the middle order) would come in and plunder a 100 at the SSC.. don't really see anyone who can do the same except for Angelo in the line-up now though. If SA can break this partnership it could be a pack of cards..

It would definitely be Piedt or Harmer. Phangiso only has 3 wickets in proper First Class cricket.

Given Piedt is the reserve spinner on the tour I'd imagine it'd be him.
Personally though I'd just go with 4 seamers if South Africa are at home.

A play one Test in Zimbabwe in August, and then will host WI late december. If Piedt has any sort of decent start in the SA FC circus, I he should be picked imho. He looks far more promising than any other spinner of late.

This SL team is as bad as I could have imagined it, could only have been worse if we lost the toss, like, the selectors have done a seriously dreadful job here.
Prasad must be pretty pissed with the selectors, firstly in England he misses the first test despite being the best bowler on show in the warm-up, then when he gets a game and bowls us to victory he doesn't get another game while we load the team with fringe-international quality spinners on a road.
I can understand the axing of both Thirimanne and Chandimal, with Mahela about to retire we seriously need to have a look at some of the other options available, but not at the same damn time in a must win match against the world's best team (or close to it anyway).
Mendis might end up bowling us to victory, he's that kind of bowler, but he probably won't, and you have to question the need for 3 spinners when pace bowling has delivered us our 3 test wins this year, not only that but Matthews simply isn't a second seamer, you just have to go into any test match with 2 proper seamers unless the conditions are giving stupid assistance to the spinners and nothing to the seamers.

Crazy bowling selections from Sri Lanka btw. You'd kick yourself if you were a South African batsman and you didn't fill your boots. Sri Lanka will need a special performance from an individual to win this because I don't see Lakmal, Mathews, Herath, Perera and Mendis all turning up, and tbh only Herath is a proven test bowler (albeit a world class one).
I could have just written Herath needs a cheap 10fer I spose.
And why the hell did they drop Chandimal? From what I've seen of him he's a reasonable cricketer and he's put some scores together.
