Buttler, or the fact he's the only squad change?

We could see Woakes for Stokes, or Kerrigan come in or whatever so wouldn't assume that will be the only actual change.
I was as disgusted as anyone by the performance yesterday, and wouldn't have cared less if everyone was dropped. Yet realistically it's 4 days to the next match, the series is live, we will probably get Jordan or Woakes for Stokes. It's not an unchanged side at all.

Grecian..

I was talking about Compton.. The KP thing is a totally different beast, I know..
Oh sorry, apologize, think I've seen the argument all over, so just assumed:shy:

Compo, oh he's not terribly inspiring, he was unlucky probably, but I can't work myself up about it. Robson looks okay, and Lyth really has scored an undecent amount of runs, and he does it as an opener.

Swann just said in an interview that one of the main reasons England are losing is because of the lack of grass on the pitches.

I can't even... I thought Swann was supposed to be a smart guy
If it was a general point then it's fair IMO. Pitches in England have been flat for ages now and have gotten a lot drier in recent years. And I'm definitely from the **** pitches encourage **** cricket school of thought.

Yep in general it's spot on, which is what made the bowling on the First day so abject Reckon:

Gidman
Murtagh
Masters
Sidebottom

would have skewered them.

So with this squad, the XI should be:

Cook
Robson
Ballance
Bell
Root
Ali
Buttler
Woakes/Kerrigan
Broad
Anderson
Plunkett

Depends which route they want to go down. Seems like they like the idea of an all-rounder at 8, so Woakes will likely play, but personally, I'd like to see a proper spinner, so would go with Kegga. Didn't really want to see Buttler in the Test squad yet, but now he's in, be awesome if he smashes it, gets a couple of good scores, and doesn't **** too much up with the gloves. Be a disaster if he fails with the bat, and misses a couple of catches. Excited to see how he goes though.

Kerrigan out the squad isn't he?

Woakes might come in for Stokes but I can't really see anything else at this stage.

Brilliant. Didn't notice that. No proper spinner then. This is an awful squad. Stokes definitely shouldn't play, just hope they pick Woakes, not Jordan.

I refuse to believe whole of England doesn't have a decent spinner. Moeen Ali, honest and hardworking, is just not a specialist.

Happy to note England are not pressing the panic button and bringing in wholesale changes, maybe its due to real paucity of options. But panicking is not the solution. There is unfortunately no alternative for Cook at the moment. Broad is too petulant and androgynous to be perceived as a leader of men. Anderson seems to have come up against a bunch who don't treat them according to his reputation.

However India cannot be complacent for the next test. There are plenty of areas for improvement. Dhawan must realize it is not a mickey mouse IPL match where he can come in blast a quick 20 and be off. Kohli needs to click and is now due for a Kohli special. Pujara needs to carry on and make that big score. Dhoni has been largely a freeloader in this series with the bat and the gloves, although his captaincy has been quite spectacular. Ishant was Ishant for 3 innings before he borrowed Mitchell Johnson suit for the last one and should take all steps to appropriate that and become the War Machine. Shami needs to stop emulating old Ishant and instead concentrate on his strengths. And Binny . Please, no, play Ashwin.

Cannot ask more from Bhuvi really, he is just a god, albeit one wet behind the ears still. A cougar's dream.

Yea, I can certainly see the logic in dropping the best performing bowler from the last Test just because he happens to be an all-rounder who's having a bad run with the bat. Oh yea and he's one of the best fielders in the side too. Broad's bowling basically lost this Test match for England, four new balls and he was absolutely atrocious with all of them and he was the main reason why India comfortably survived more than 80 overs both innings in the first place.

But as always with England it's the newbies that are extremely disposable whilst the senior players seem to strive for mediocrity. This is a perfect opportunity to rotate the bowling after a game-losing performance from Broad. But no several people think getting rid of the best performing bowler is the way to go because he got a pair. Brilliant.

Doesn't the Rose Bowl take spin? Madness not to have more spinning options in the England squad. At this rate I can see Ballance and Root getting more than a few overs...
