It is pretty stunning to see how poor Eng have been against the two worst seam attacks in the top 8. How would they go sgainst decent attacks?

I haven't read the whole thread, but what is the consensus on Stuart Broad? Personally i'd pick him at 8 (instead of some of the bits and pieces players), bowl him 1st change and give him the captaincy. Thoughts?

Well, all I can say is that as an Indian fan, I would be delighted if England did that. Stokes or Jordan at number 8 for me. Broad is fine at 9. Plunkett is much more suitable than Broad to bowl first change. Broad looks too anxious to be captain IMO.

I remember Michael Clarke going out similarly in Brisbane.

I'm not going to write off his entire ability to face the short ball because he played one poorly one ball before the lunch break.

Honestly Ali's biggest weakness is his ability against spin. Root looked just as woeful against the short ball he just didn't get out.
It's just the way he got out. If he was an Aussie and got out like that there would be calls for him to be dropped, rightly or wrongly. I said the same thing when Clarke did get out like that in Brisbane, that if that was anyone else in the side they would have copped so much **** from the media.

Really, you think? I'm not so sure. Not that his Prior comments should need defending anyway. Captain in defending player and trying to keep his confidence levels from ceasing to exist shock.
Yeah, I'd expect they'd have known by midway through the Test, given his performance.

Agree with you on principle as well though.

Losing to this Indian side should be like losing to Bangladesh. Not considering the talent but the inexperience. The total runs scored by Indian XI prior to this test was almost on par with what the Bangla XI had in their last test match. And both aggregate runs and wickets taken by this Indian XI is lower than that of Jaques Kallis' tally.

Creditable achievement by this young inexperienced and rebuilding Indian side to beat England team at their home. And to say they lost the toss and were inserted on a green pitch, conditions being completely non subcontinental.
Bit harsh. Our batting lineup may be inexperienced but I think it was acknowledged before the series that it was one of the best lineups in world cricket. All our batsmen have delivered in tough overseas consistently over the last year. The problem for us was always the bowling and that's been the real shock. Didn't expect England to fold like that.

Btw, I have seen some amazing variations in player preferences going forward from the English fans here.

Can someone summarize who are the two best pacers to replace any of Plunkett and Stokes? Kerrigan seems to be the common vote for spinner. But so many names for pacers and batsmen.

What happened to Carberry and Compton? Why the hell does Adam Lyth keep coming up?
because he is an opening bat and is the only player in top level county cricket to have scored >1000 runs so far this season includng a double ton..quality player..

So I wonder what today brings?

Will Jimmy get a ban and will the skipper get the sack?

One thing about Broad, i'd drop him if he isn't fit. To me he doesn't look fit, if there is an injury drop him and bring him back when he is fit as playing him while injured is no use and will mean he may miss the WC.

As for the rest, god knows.

Its not just that England are bad, they are so uninspired. At least during the 90s they had some good players to watch.

Watching Anderson bowl is like the only thing about their side I enjoy. And he's been mostly ****house this series.

Nah, Bell and Ali are a joy, past Gower I can't remember anyone particularly good to watching the 90s. Nasser, Athers, Thorpe, c'mon. Hate revisionism. BTW during the 90s I hated the revisionism of saying how everything was great during the 80s, because apart from beaten up on a **** Oz side we were pretty poor. Yet Gower and Beefy were great to watch I suppose.

We're almost always average, stop looking back at times when we were even a bit below average.

Honestly, the thing I hate watching most are teams looking like they are not having a good time. England look like that at present. Whatever's happening, at least enjoy the cricket. I know it's way easier said than done. But genuine smiles have become rarer and rarer in cricket over the years.

And that's quite sad. Jadeja and Dhoni are a revelation that ways.

i'd like to point out that while here in australia peter siddle was dropped partly due to the coaches desire that his quicks bowl over 140kph, england were bounced out by ishant sharma bowling low 130s

So agree with this, and I think that's what I like about Root as much as his current form with the bat. Cheer the **** up ****s.......it's only cricket at the end of the day.

If we're going to be **** and lose all the time then do it with some fight and a smile on your face.

KP exclusive: My England comeback dream

He says all this stuff about wanting to play for England again, but if that was the case, why is he not plundering runs for Surrey in the Championship right now? Why's he jetting off to the Caribbean to play in some pointless T20 tournament. I would love to see KP in an England shirt again, I really would, but if he was really that keen on getting back in, he'd have gone about things differently this summer. I just see no way back for him now, despite the fact that I know he'd bring something to the side.
