Surprised no mid team table or recently promoted side bid for Demba Ba, he would have been a handy addition to there side

The whole idea that Liverpool's defensive woes will be solved by the purchase of a good centre back is pretty naive imo. The reason they conceded more goals than Crystal Palace last season was not simply down to crap centre backs.

Yeah I agree. No one at the start of the season would have expected so many performances from Agger, Skrtel and Toure- OK Toure is past his best, but he started the season very strongly and they've all been pretty good players before. Sakho is terribad, but he didn't play most games.

It looks to me like an organisation/leadership problem. When their defence started leaking at around the same time the previous season, Rodgers made Carragher a regular again to tighten things up. You can fix it with new players but it will probably take some time, half a season or so, just like with Mertesacker.

Surprised Powell is supposedly being let go; I thought he was quite highly rated.

Anyway, it'll be a shame for everyone else if the rest get the chop. Particularly the clubs who are foolish enough to take them on.
Their sources are the Mirror, Express and Star, so I think this story might just be guesswork. It'd be a strange story to leak because it weakens their negotiating position.

It's probably mostly true, but I'd be surprised if he let Zaha or Powell go. Of those not listed I wouldn't be surprised to see the back of Kagawa.

Best way to tell if people actually watched Liverpool defend: whether they rate Sakho or not.

Been hoping for us to get some of your youngsters on loan given that Frank McParland is our sporting director.
Well not any Liverpool ones but vey happy with getting Alex Pritchard on loan from Spurs.

Happy with the squad now, just need one more striker, supposed to be getting Scott Hogan from Rochdale. Like Grey coming from Luton it is a risk but there is no way we can afford a proven Championship striker, just look at Fulham buying McCormak for stupid money. If one of them come good then we can be very happy indeed.

Not saying Sakho is going to become great but how many players have crap/ordinary first seasons and come good and to the same extent how many have a great first season then become crap?

BARNES OUT
Well this is amusing.
ind33d.

I actually don't think he's that bad, his positioning is awful though. I presume he came up the ranks in France by using his pace and strength to cover for it, which is obviously failing him now. I could see him becoming a very good player after a few seasons though.

Maybe, but the Ligue 1 crowd didn't seem to rate him when he was there either. I think he gets kept around because he has the potential to be incredible, even though right now he's pretty woeful. By the end of last season Carragher (well known Liverpool-ignorer) was doing a "Sakho is ****" segment on MNF nearly every time he played.

I agree with Sledger earlier in the thread that Liverpool's goals conceded were down to far more than their individual defenders being crap, not least because in many cases the individual defenders weren't crap at all. There were several games where you could look at each defender and think they'd had a decent game, and yet Liverpool had conceded two or three goals. Regarding Sakho I agree with DCYE, he's not terrible but he does have some glaring weaknesses. I'm not convinced he will ever solve them, but we will see.

Our defensive problems were due to a lack of organisation, as well as an inordinate amount of **** ups. Own goals, bad passes, sleepy defending for a minute here and there.

On the whole, Sakho was actually very good for us. Was excellent as well for France. I think his gait makes him appear clumsy when in fact he's actually a very 'clean' player. I'd say the thing he needs to work on is when to go in and tackle, as he cuts a fine line between being amazing and looking really bad when he gets it wrong due to going in really early as opposed to containing. Maybe that was getting used to the speed of the game though. Otherwise he's excellent in the air and he's impressed me greatly with his passing. I think if the defenders don't perform well this season, you could see about 3 of them shipped off early.

He's rated incredibly highly in France. Why do you think, when fit, he's preferred to Koscielny for the national team?

Now even I think that's too far, but it's pretty clearly not true that they don't rate him over there.

France have a history of making extremely questionable selections tbf.

I've got a bad feeling Chelsea/Jose are gonna get their **** together and run away with the league. In this window: Fabregas, Diego Costa, Luis Felipe and Courtois. Depressing.
