***Official*** India in England 2014

Contra

Cricketer Of The Year
I'm not against a 5 bowler (or more accurately 6 bats + 2 all rounders) but Binny's so called "medium swing bowling" just doesn't look penetrating enough. I do hope India consider 2 all rounders on pitches that offer spin more.

I have decided I will boycott the first test as a protest again Ishant being in the side. That and I am going camping, but it's nice when things work out.

Fully expecting Ishant Sharma to be India's most effective bowler in the series to continue the laughter I get from people trying to claim India has someone better than him

I almost wish Ishant had a cricketing father, so we could throw him out on charges of nepotism. Alas.....

Rohan Gavaskar
I remember after just one decent ODI outing by Rohan, Sidhu saying in the post-match analysis "Bagal mein bachcha aur shaher mein dhindora" (The treasure you are searching for far and wide has always been right under your nose) w.r.t. India's limited overs all-rounder scarcities.

Sidhu, you wild mannered suck-up, you!

Is it weird that India A doing well against Aus A is somehow making me quietly confident about this series?

Why do we hate Binny so much? Just wondering
Does he deserve to be in the test side on his domestic perfomances?? Yes. And its a pretty good selection, India needs someone like him in tests. Our pace bowlers have not been able to finish games for us, there have been quite a few overseas games where India has been in a commanding position but our bowlers have been too exhausted or overbowled in crucial times. And picking one spinner hasn't worked either, since if the conditions do not assist spin bowling, the other three pacers have to bowl extra overs. So yes, Binny's inclusion in the test is a good one. Our best all rounder is still Irfan, but he is out of touch after that long break he had to take due to injury. Binny can share the workload of the pace bowlers and take an odd wicket or two. And most people who do not watch the Indian domestic games seem to underrate Binny's bowling ability, they judge him from his IPL performances. He's been very useful in the FC games as a bowler. And as an all rounder, he can make a cut in the test side for overseas game. Same can be said about Rishi Dhawan.

The real problem in the test side is MSD. He is wasting a batting slot, and because of his poor batting outside SC, he tries to fit in Jadeja or Ashwin who can contribute with the bat, leaving Ojha(who can't bat) completely out of the equation. If Ashwin is not doing well overseas as the lead spinner, the next person in line is Ojha, but he gets sidelined.

And India needs to go with 5 bowlers(2 ARs and 3 specialist bowlers or 3 ARs and 2 specialist bowlers), and its difficult to take that decision with MSD in the squad.

I'll admit I haven't watched him bowl in the longer format, but in a competition where medium pacers pick up wickets for fun, his aren't returns that instill any sort of confidence that the bloke can get international quality batsmen out. I understand the need to take the burden off the rest of the attack but I just don't think he's the guy for it.

Rishi Dhawan was a much better option if they insisted on having a pace bowling AR, and I still wouldn't pick him.

Sandeep Sharma has the potential to be a decent swing bowler who can average 28-32 in tests from what I have seen.
