Tyldesley at the end of the Colombia match, in his trademark dramatic summing-up tone, "Brazil are next on their course ... ... menu". So awkward.

Hoddle is the absolute worst. Such a creep. Total idiot who still hasn't realised he's an idiot.

Yeah, it's actually a decent idea if you know someone has dived, but obviously the officials wouldn't given they've given the penalty in the first place, so it's just stupid.

Per Metersacker won a penalty this season for instance. How ridiculous would it be making him take it?

For a long time Arsenal had that policy where the one who won the penalty would never be the one to take it. Not sure if they bother with that anymore.

Really annoys me when Townsend decides that as a player is a flair player that they'll have no interest in the defensive side of the game. **** clearly either doesn't watch - or more likely doesn't understand - modern football.

Surely the front 3 in a 4-3-3 are pretty exempt from defensive work anyway? Playing outwide in a 4-3-3 is different to a 4-2-3-1.

Absolutely not. The front three need to press the defence and DM.

It's just the lazy stereotyping of guys like Götze who came from a team like Dortmund where the coach inists that his team run further than the opposition and who basically redefined the idea of pressing. The idea that Götze will just go 'nah, cbf' when the opposition have the ball is laughable.

Really? Ridiculous.
Well, from what I remember it wasn't so much that anyone was saying they weren't a good defensive side, but that loads of people were putting to down to Pique, Mascherano and Busquets just being superhuman and being the only ones working at defending in the side, when the reality was that there was loads of defensive effort all over the pitch. I remember reading somewhere that apparently their system was that every time they lost of the ball they were allowed 5 seconds to win it back, and if they didn't manage it they had to then drop hard and fast onto whatever their designated defensive assignment was. Easier said than done.
