Sheep Draft version 5.0

Red

The normal awards that everyone else has
No prizes for guessing who Monk has chosen for his last player. He is as obvious as obvious thing from obvious land, and I'll eat all my hats if he doesn't pick him.
Who were you thinking here? And how many hats do you own?

The Final "Rob Quiney is such a Victard Gimp that I had to pick Trevor Gripper ahead of him XI" is

1 Phil Jaques (47.47)
2 Trevor Gripper (21.86 & 84.83)
3 Hashim Amla (51.51)
4 Ted Dexter (47.89 & 34.93)
5 Aravinda de Silva (42.97 & 41.65)
6 Mike Smith (31.63)
7 BJ Watling (38.45)
8 Imran Khan (37.69 & 22.81)
9 Wilfred Rhodes (30.19 & 26.96)
10 Richard Collinge (14.40 & 29.25
11 Frank Tyson (10.95 & 18.56)

Certainly short of real superstar batsmen but Pro was quality until his back gave out and Amla, Dexter and Aravinda is a more than handy middle order. We also bat nice and deep with Watling, Khan and Rhodes at 7, 8 & 9.

Get back into it with the ball though I reckon. Typhoon to have a short burst with Imran with the new ball before Collinge comes on. Dexter to bowl some more than handy seamers in support and allow the two star quicks to stay fresh with short spells. Rhodes provides the wily left arm orthos with Aravinda to turn a few the other way if needed.

International Vice-Captain
1. Hanif Mohammad (43.98)
2. Trevor Goddard (34.46 & 26.22)
3. Bill Edrich (40.00 & 41.29)
4. Frank Woolley (36.07 & 33.91)
5. Keith Miller (36.97 & 22.97)
6. Shakib Al Hasan (37.96 & 33.39)
7. Rod Marsh (26.51)
8. Gilbert Jessop (21.88 & 35.40)
9. Merv Hughes (16.64 & 28.38)
10. Bishan Bedi (8.98 & 28.71)
11. Muttiah Muralitharan (11.67 & 22.72)

Updated to add in some averages. Lose out about on Goddard, Woolley and Jessop who had excellent FC records but didn't quite manage that at test level.

Plenty of bowling options for all conditions there Bob. Was there some reason you couldn't get another allrounder for Hanif?

Most surprising player not named or attempted to be named? For me Allan Border was someone I was expecting to receive votes in the 80s question.

It was a toss up for me between AB and Dexter in the last question, but I went with Ted because I felt I needed a little more seam up and feared someone else would surely go for Border as well. I was stunned I got Imran in the 80s question.

Didn't devy go much earlier? Reckon I made the wrong choice with cairns, a jim laker would have added a lot more to the bowling while losing nothing in the batting. That is if I sub out morkel, but the hex tail is incredibly tempting.

Mashall, Imran and Wasim, the three greatest remaining quicks at that point all got through. Boggles the mind

I was fortunate enough to get Andy Roberts and Curtly Ambrose in Sheep Draft 4.0. However, I was not so lucky this time round. Consequently the team is very unlikely to get maximum votes as the bowling tends to be very good (3 Silver Tier quicks) rather than outstanding despite having depth and variety. On-the-other-hand, the batting is excellent so it might scrape a few votes as the preferred third choice.

01. Jack Hobbs
02. Eddie Barlow
03. Rohan Kanhai
04. Brian Lara
05. David Gower*
06. Ravi Shastri
07. John Waite +
08. Ian Bishop
09. John Snow
10. Saeed Ajmal
11. Neil Adcock

12th. Andy Sandham

Note: Ian Bishop normally batted at No.8 for the Windies, so he's not entirely out of place in that position despite not being the best bowling-allrounder in the world.

12. Alok Kalapai / drinks avg 3min

Top order full of runs, with an aggressive middle order. a balanced bowling attack with leg & offspin, strike power with patto, cleverness and swing with alderman and mcdermott, one of the greatest slippers in mark waugh and some solid part time bowling. the only question is who will field at short leg.

Too many good options left I think players were trying to be cute.

Atleast the batting is deep I guess.

Would need Lohmann to continue taking poles at 11 to have a relevant bowling attack.
