You would have to say that despite a couple of wickets he is the one who is in danger of losing his place for the India series. Not done a lot with bat and hardly bowled, could use Root for the amount of overs Ali has had.
Yeah, he's been under-bowled for mine, but if Cook is going to consistently treat him more like Root than Swann then he shouldn't really be in the side. I've disappointed not to see him bowl more in this game in general. It's one thing when the pace bowlers are getting the job done, but he hasn't even really been turned to when partnerships have developed, and Root getting almost as much of a bowl as him in the first innings was rather silly for mine.

I'm quite a fan of a bowling but if it's not going to be utilised then England might as well pick the next batsman, and it's not him IMO.

I'll make a believer of you yet.
Still think he'll be chopped for Stokes come the Indian series with a proper spinner (or as close as we have to one) replacing Jordan or Plunkers. Monty if his head is right or, failing that, Ravi Patel is being talked up or else that tall lad at Kent whose name escapes me just now.

I am surprised it was clipping to be honest, moved a long way.
Yeah, I had that as sliding down.

Is Samaraweera still a thing?

Not in the first flush of youth, admittedly, but struggle to believe he'd have done worse than the incumbent #5.

Samaraweera could've played on till he was 40 in Tests if he wanted to considering SL's batting options..
He got left out of a squad and then retired, the board basically showed him the door, our batting options aren't that bad really, just didn't perform on this tour. This tour has certainly gotten me a little worried about what is going to happen on this tour in two years time and further on in the future though

Looks like new ball in the morning decides the game. England use it well they should have a small target to chase, SL survive they may have enough to see Herath spin them to victory.

Aside from Sanga, Mahela and Mathews I don't think any other batsman deserves a place in the side more than Samaraweera.. SL's 3rd highest average of all-time after Sanga and Mahela (of players with 2000+ runs)..

well that was a top day of test cricket, thought both sides played very well, suspect if we get a result tomorrow it will go England's way but if it goes into day 5 then SL will take it, new ball crucial, get through it unscathed or for the loss of only one wicket and we've got a good chance at winning this, collapse to it and it's pretty much game over, can't expect the bowlers to bail us out twice.

Betfair says Eng 64% SL 25% Draw 11%.. I really don't think a draw is anything more than 5% here..
