True, but reviewing his feet movement from say five years ago versus what it is today, it's almost like he's forgotten how to bat in tests and unless he's trying to murder the ball through the line, he just doesn't have it anymore.
I can't recall him ever having particularly noticeable feet movement. I would say he was more in the Ryder mode of economical movement.

Gotta give the bowlers the credit, tbh.

Windies day.. be an interesting day tomorrow, It wouldn't surprise me if Windies end up getting around about the same score (200-230) but will be interesting to see what impact Boult and Southee have and whether or not we'll get anything from Craig in this innings.

Not a pleasant scorecard to wake up to. Not that surprised that we collapsed though. McCullum is reverting to his past form, Neesh isn't really a test number 6 and Watling can't bail us out every time. Good on Latham for continuing his good form, even if it sounded like a horrible shot to get out. Sounds like there's a bit in the wicket, in which case leaving Wagner out was a mistake. Southee and Boult are going to have to do something special tomorrow morning or we're in trouble.

Bit of knee-jerking happening here friend.

Neesh is every inch a Test #6, and may even become a 5 before too long. Yes he'll get out being adventurous, and as we've seen on his day he'll also tear attacks a new one. I'm still taking the over on a career average of 40 if someone offers it to me.

And Brendon will probably admit his preparation for this tour has been very sub-standard in terms of what is ideal.

Let's have it buddy.
Lol no boasting here mate...only half time. What i will say is it would appear that the second innings bowling in the first test may not have just been about the pitch afterall.

I said we'd ask NZ some questions..and we got the answers. Now it's a matter of if we can take advantage with the bat..shame about Gayle but the guy is coming to the end now. Honestly i knew Kraigg would be the more solid one of the two in this situation.

Tomorrow is all about taking our time and building partnerships..any kind of lead would be massive for our guys confidence.

Taylor= brilliant
Roach= still getting into a groove..should have had Taylor
Gabriel= wasn't happy he got picked ahead of Holder but can't complain..done ok
Benn= should have had more wickets..done well overall.

Cricket is a funny old game and for all i know WI could collapse for 150 tomorrow...but right now it's just good to totally dominate a day..it's been a while.

Exactly y was Gabriel persisted with and Holder not given a chance. IMO the obvious WI attack should be: Holder, Taylor, Roach and Narine or am I way off base.....

Good day of cricket though (for the WI) but as WW mentioned, the WI could very well fold for a sub 200 score very easily.

PS Trent Boult looks like the real deal

Totally dominate a day would've been scoring 20-30 off the seven overs faced this morning, not be down a batsman for six runs at the close of play.

I thought exactly the same. Boult was always going to be a massive threat in that 25 minute session, that is about as tough as it gets in terms of opening batsmanship. Gayle looked like a walking wicket in those circumstances and you could see Boult knew exactly how to get him. Kraigg on the other hand looked calm, competent and pretty much untroubled. I'm already glad he's playing instead of Powell and it has only been 6 overs.

I think the time might well be coming where Gayle either has to bat at 6 or retire from tests. I'll be delighted to be proved wrong and no doubt he could still smash a double century on a road but in these conditions he was never making a significant contribution.

As for our bowling, I think WW pretty much summed it up. JT was immense, Roach improved and Benn was solid (would still pick Shilly or Narine any day but he is a very useful spinner to have in the squad). Gabriel still looks awful to me and lacks fast bowling basics but at the end of the day he took 2 pretty cheap wickets so can't complain. I must confess I was fearing the worst after the 1st session.

Tomorrow will be tricky, I'm hoping for some application from the batsman in the face of what will no doubt be an excellent opening burst from Southee and Boult. If we end tomorrow having seen a solid Kraigg Innings and a Blackwood special on debut, I'll be a happy fella.

PS, a couple of asides.

1) Did anyone notice just how fast Blackwood is across the ground? Absolutely ludicrous pace. What do they feed them in Jamaica?
2) Am I the only one who thought that was one of the worst Ross Taylor innings they've seen? Looked like getting out any second for it's entirety, gave chances galore, failed to protect the tail too. Very strange to see him bat like that given the way he scored runs a few months ago. Still, he ended up not out I guess.

Beamer!!..when you have a class act like Taylor doing his thing at one end it can rub off on the others. It's a similar thing with Narine..when he's in the zone the others get lifted. Will be interesting to see if Narine really does get picked for the third test as we'd then be really close to having our best possible attack on the park.

And you're right..Kraigg 21, Blackwood 22 and Darren 25 could possibly form the backbone of the WI top order for many years to come...so let us hope that at least two of them put up a decent score.

In closing Gayle is on borrowed time imo...whatever happens in this series if i was a selector i'd be looking at testing out a new opener in the Bang series..Thomas or Elvin Lewis would be my candidates...no point going back to Powell in the near future.

Looking forward to watching Blackwood bat. Always interesting to see how a young bloke handles his first test match.

I wouldn't classify it as knee-jerking, as I've been on the record several times saying I don't think Neesham is a #6 and that there's a good chance that McCullum will revert to the mid-30's averager that he's been his entire career.

It's certainly a new era in terms of our test batting lineup. I'd love to watch a long partnership between Blackwood and Darren Bravo. It's hard to imagine a more aesthetically pleasing West Indian batting duo right now

As for the opening position, If Dwayne Bravo was fit I'd bat him at 6 and move Kirk up to open in the short term. Thomas and Lewis are clearly in need of more FC cricket. Lewis in particular is a good talent but it's too early.
