Normally, I'd agree. It just didn't feel like one of those days where Craig was ever going to hang around out there though. He was always going to go early.
For how brilliant Taylor can be with the bat, he's never been good batting with the tail. Watling's failure really hurt us here, he's been the shepherd.

So... Taylor scores 12 runs during the 5 wickets with the tail, taking less strike than they took. What a selfish stupid ****.

Ross can't go on feelings though, he has to try and build something and guys with 20+ FC averages are expected to hold an end up imo. Craig is a bowling allrounder, batting with the established batsman is his job.

Haven't been watching it but is the wicket doing something?
Nothing major. I'd just say it's the type of wicket you'll never get settled on. A lot of Jerome Taylor's wickets came because he was patient and bowled good channels, and the batsman were wafting their bat outside the line and not using their feet. A lot of the dismissals were batsman error rather than bowler brilliance.

I hope it isn't really a flat wicket otherwise 221 is a very poor score. Hopefully we can get a couple by stumps and make a game of it tomorrow.

It's not flat, but 221 is below par. I'd say a par score on here would've been around 300 in these conditions.

Theres still 15 overs minimum to be bowled, two off for the change of innings, we'll get a spell of twelve(ish) overs at them.
No, only an additional 30min is added at the end of the day regardless of how far behind over rates they are - Play to finish 930 NZ Time

A truly horrendous effort.

2 down for 140 odd then this calamity. McCullum is out of the groove big time.

Some of the batsmen performed based on past performances and didn't read the situation well enough and so gave their wickets away.

Nice to see some patient bowling from the West Indies for a change but most of those wickets were gifts from the batsmen. Terrible performance.

This is the same method that Watling has used with the tail, trust them, give them the strike etc has seamed to work for him recently.

1 for 120 odd IIRC. Williamson's was a terrible dismissal. Latham's was bad but he got most of our runs so hard to complain. Neesham's dismissal looks bad but he's not going to be a grafter, he was playing his shots. Watling's was poor. McCullum is extremely weak against wicket-to-wicket bowling early on.

Only watching the cricinfo commentary, but is there any reason Taylor was only taking singles when Boult was batting with him as opposed to attempting a few bold strokes?

Watling bats well with the tail because he assesses which bowlers he needs to face and which bowlers he can rotate strike against. Often you'll see him take full strike over a tail ender until the tail ender is comfortable at the crease and often you'll see him accelerate his scoring rates at the end of an innings to make the most of the wickets available to him. They have completely contrasting styles, you wouldn't see Watling put the first ball down for a single against the best performing opposition bowler and expect the tail ender to be there at the end of the over.

It's quite incredible how often McCullum misses relatively straight deliveries from spinners. He's probably better off NOT playing for the turn.
