Hope Mathews goes big here. He should not be wasting his time at number six. He is so, so good against the moving ball that when Sanga and/or Mahela retire he should bat at three or four. I've often seen him play swing better than Sangakkara.

Jassy's head just exploded. A double whammy from him - Sanga ton in England and then this post.

Amazing that before last night Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis and Sanga were not on the Lord's board.

Sanga now can tell those 4 to suck his dick.
Trevor Franklin is on the Lord's Honour board. Big whoop.

Yes the Lords pitch is not good, I think they're often saved by having crap weather around it, particularly in the earlier Test, spices it up a bit, but when it's dry it's god-awful.

So you can't judge the bowlers much, but I'm still not liking what I'm seeing from Plunkers, he really doesn't seem to have improved that much, would rather have Finn.
Don;t think pitch is that crap though. The way Moeen Ali was spinning the ball, I would be sure Murali or Warne would have run through the line up. Both sides don't have a spinner capable of exploting the conditions. Having said that, a good reverse swing bowler also would have thrived on the conditions. Waqar would have run amock on this track with the low bounce.

And he is much more aggressive than Sanga or Mahela. But the massive minus point is that he sucks against spin big time. There is a school of thought that he should be the opening batsman for SL.

Recent history has shown time and again that Lord's pitch gets really easy to bat on, as the game progresses. There hasn't been that much for bowlers since the very first session of this match.

he was a great example of "someone has to take some wickets, i guess"
That must be the most valid argument since he had Murali in the team with so called tailor made pitches for spin. And to do it at 20.95 against England must have been a fluke.

Mathews said “I think when you travel to some parts of the world and people find a certain bowler difficult to handle they tend to report,” Mathews told BBC Sinhala.
He didn't seriously say that did he?

I think players in both camps need to be muzzled on discussing the opposition. That wasn't a smart comment by Matthews but neither was what Cook had to say on the mankading........if Giles Clarke sees fit to report Matthews comments then I see no reason why the Sri Lankan board shouldn't respond in kind.

STFU and get on with the cricket FFS.

This match is Exhibit A when it comes to a decision as to whether teams should pick a specialist spinner 99 times out of 100

A specialist might not have run through a lineup (as the pitch looks very good) but at least he would have posed a few questions

Herath is a specialist spinner and not too shabby on his day. But I think this generation is spoiled by the exploits of Warne and Muralitharan, those guys were anomalies rather than the norm and even in the case of Kumble and Swann, they were once in a generation talents. It wasn't too long ago you'd see sides happily take four seamers into a game and park the Tim May's and Phil Tufnell's of the world on the bench.
