I realize it has been done before years ago but thought CC would beenfit from a fresh thread for all the new posters.

Reliance ICC Player Rankings

On my birthday and the day Kurt Cobain died (Hi GIMH)

5/4/1994

G.A. Gooch (1)
D.L. Haynes (5)
D.C. Boon (3)
S.R. Tendulkar (2)
R. Richardson (4)
M. Azharuddin (6)
A.J. Stewart (23)
W. Akram (5)
S.K. Warne (3)
W. Younis (2)
C.E.L. Ambrose (1)

Picking Akram over a higher rated Kumble as he offers batting and 2 specialist spinners are overkill. A batting lineup which no pace bowler would be eager to bowl to and an ATG bowling attack with arguably the two best old ball bowlers ever, the most celebrated spinner of all-time and on top of that, Curtly ****ing Ambrose.

I'll do one from my 13th birthday in a while. Someone to do the current one and from random important dates. I'd do some but I'm posting sneakily from work. Go crazy.

Athlai

Not Terrible
Greenidge 9
Haynes 7
Richards 3
Miandad 1
Richardson 2
Imran 21 - 3
Dujon 24
Hadlee 32 - 1
Marshall 52 - 1
Qadir 7
Walsh 93 - 4

Crowe left out of batting, Kapil Dev out of bowling.

Not really sure about how in form some of these guys were at the time and their batting positions but there you go. Not much different to Teja's team.

Imran Khan - Batting 22, Bowling 3
Dujon - 22
Hadlee - Bowling 1,Batting 36
Malcom Marshall - 2
Curtly Ambrose - 4

Left out Vengsarkar, who was ranked all the way up at 2, and Richardson at 3. Didn't want a spinner coz that bowling attack is all sorts of awesome.

Almost identical to Athlai's team. How the **** did you leave out Crowe, you're a NZer

A long-ish tail is probably the only thing against this side - but what a pace attack, and that top order is the perfect mix of majestic elegance and pure brutality.

And yes, I'm ****ing old.

Hey OS, you can't game and leave out players for people who we know are superior but ranked below, that defeats the point of the exercise. :p

Obviously you can leave out people for reasons like balance of the side, ability with other skill and batting position though.

Some team that. Great bowling line up. Can take wicketkeeper of choice with them having the same ranking.

Obviously left out 6,7 and 8th bat to pick an opener of the time.

Chris Broad (10)
Gordon Greenidge (7)
Viv Richards (1)
Dilip Vengsarkar (2)
Allan Border (3)
Imran Khan (23, 3)
Jeffrey Dujon (18)
Richard Hadlee (1)
Malcolm Marshall (2)
Abdul Qadir (6)
Courtney Walsh (4)

Safe to say Broad looks a touch of place in that lineup. Could always go with just the 4 bowlers, in which case Miandad comes in for Walsh or Qadir if you don't feel the need for a spinner.

Love the side, Sean. Would be an amazing side to watch.

ICC World XI today:

1. D.A. Warner (5)
2. C.A. Pujara (8)
3. K.C. Sangakkara (2)
4. H.M. Amla (4)
5. S. Chanderpaul (3)
6. A.B. de Villiers (1)
7. M.G. Johnson (4)
8. V.D. Philander (3)
9. R.J. Harris (2)
10. D.W. Steyn (1)
11. S. Ajmal (5)

Picked Pujara to open over Taylor and Misbah as he has more experience up the order and a very, very brief but successful flutter with opening. Weird to see Clarke at 9 though when realistically speaking he's top 3, at least.

Eyes not spreadsheets
Greenidge: 2
Gavaskar: 3
Richards: 1
Viswanath: 4
Kallicharran: 5
G Chappell: 6
Botham: 35/1
Knott: 22
Lillee: 3
Willis: 2
Bedi: 6

Thomson and Roberts miss out from the attack to provide a spin option.

Picking Pujara as a current opener is cheating.

Nice idea Teja;

01. Bob Simpson 4
02. Bill Lawry 5
03. Rohan Kanhai 2
04. Ken Barrington 1
05. Colin Cowdrey 6
06. Garry Sobers 3
07. Jim Parks 22
08. Peter Pollock 2
09. Wes Hall 3
10. Graham McKenzie 5
11. Lance Gibbs 1
12th. Neil Hawke 4

Cheated a little bit as Neil Hawke is a handful of points ahead of Garth McKenzie. Nice to see Lance Gibbs as the No.1 bowler in the world on my Birthday. Like the batting too.

Insert generic joke about Tendulkar batting at 3. Stewart might have been playing as a specialist bat at the time, I genuinely don't know, but he was the highest of any recognisable keepers. Dat bowling attack.
