***Official*** Sri Lanka in England and Ireland 2014

I didn't say he was world class but he is a good player. 33 matches, 47 wickets, average 26, economy of 4.9. Very dependable and numbers compare pretty well to most.

They compare very well to Swann for example. Swann played a lot more matches obviously (79), but took his 104 wickets at 27, economy of 4.54 and strike rate of 36.6. Tredwell's numbers stack up well, his average is better, strike rate is better, only things Swann has on him is a marginally better economy, and more matches. Tredwell's performed well, and has become a very dependable cricketer for England, despite not really playing for Kent much.

Nah look this argument that chucking still takes skill is complete BS. I understand why the Lankan fans are annoyed by the unfair way that lots of SC spinners are treated (won't comment on Senanayake but the way Murali was treated was abhorrent), but seriously, there's a reason chucking is banned. It's easier to impart more revs on the ball. It's easier to get massive amounts of turn. The delivery stride becomes easier because chuckers can essentially just pause and shotput the ball across the pitch instead of building momentum and putting your hip into the action. I'd even argue it's easier to be more accurate. FFS have you guys tried chucking the ball, ever? It's so much easier in every way it's stupid

I've seen this point being brought up a number of times in many threads and it's ridiculous. I have sympathy for the Lankan fans rightly defending some of their spinners against the usual dissenters but let's not descend into rubbish like this.

In my experience it's easier to chuck with a massive bend but very difficult to keep it at a legal level, not that I really think that has relevance within this debate though

14:20 start and still 50 overs per side. Can't see it staying that way though.

Batting 2nd should be a massive advantage.

Whether Sena flexes more than 15 degrees is up for debate, but from what I see he starts with a bent arm, which makes any straightening look worse than it actually may be - going from bent to bent is not a problem as you all know. IMO his bent-to-straightening deviation seems similar to what you see with Ajmal, but that is not a scientific opinion.

Should be, but as it'll be England, who knows?

Given the forecast, SL may be tempted to declare when they reach 100 so they can get back to the warmth of their hotel sooner.

As for the throwing debate, my only thought is to question the point of clearing people based on tests in non-match situations, as it's pd obvious that guys will make sure they don't change the angle of their arm in those conditions. Whereas in a match, there will obviously be more temptation to do so.

Not a comment on the guy who did well at Durham btw, as I didn't see the match. Just a general ponder.

Good start for Jimmy. Thirimanne open in the test matches? Going to be a real test for him this series.

Thiri is fast becoming Anderson's bunny. Doesn't bode well for SL in tests.. It looks like Sanga will be coming to bat within the first 5 overs everytime..

7 ODI dismissals now. Most for any bowler against Thiri.
