Norwood's on Fire
If Liverpool and City go into the last game level on points watch yer scousers play 1-1-8 against Newcastle. And given Newcastle are on the beach it should be pretty entertaining watching them try and win by seven more than City that day or whatever it is they'll need by then

99/100 nothing will come of balls passed across the goal one's defending, but why leave oneself a hostage of fortune?

If it doubt and all that.
Nah you're being silly. You're not a professional footballer if you don't trust yourself to pull off the sideways pass to Steven Gerrard on the halfway line.

Instead of lauding Mourinho as a genius, I'm just going to point out that Chelsea have taken 12 points out of 12 against City and Liverpool yet will probably finish 3rd.

Indeed. It's schoolboy stuff because schools probably have hack centre backs like me who'd fall over their own feet if they had to control a ball and pick out a pass. I mean how often do you see Bayern, Barca or Arsenal concede a goal from passing it along their last line?

It's one of those context things. As long as you don't have a complete brainfart moment passing the ball across your own box won't result in any danger. Always makes me very nervous when I play in goal and watch it happen though.

I think the fact that every team in the world does it multiple times a game is pretty telling. If you balls it up it could be costly but that could be said about anything, and sometimes the only option that is on is a sideways pass across your own goal.

Carragher on Sky just now suggesting that Agger would've taken the ball forward or passed it up to Flanagan rather than laying it square to Gerrard...

999 times out of 1,000 a simple square ball to an unmarked Gerrard is the safest option on the park. Carragher obviously doesn't want to blame Gerrard.

There is absolutely no danger at all until Gerrard miscontrols the ball; he compounds it by slipping.

It's all he's ever been capable of. It's an area of his game he's actually pretty close to being world class in

In that he hasn't always been good at it? This year I can recall Aston Villa, Sunderland, Tottenham, Everton, this evening all from this season. Pretty sure he started his Arsenal career with about 5 similar too.
