Indian Premier League 2014

Unless there were other reasons for it (e.g. giving somebody else a hit), I found it strange that Smith was due to bat at 7 for Rajastan as he is probably their best batsman
No he isn't. Not at this format anyway. Watson is better.

Oh yeah? By who....his mother?
No, even his mother won't agree with this.

On a serious note, calling Narine a chucker was something totally unexpected, if a bowler makes you look like a fool and you have no answer to him he becomes a chucker?? Narine has a pretty clean action, he's just exceptional in the shorter formats, can't target him because you have no answer to him.

Once again how do you know he called him a chucker?

Mumbai's management or whoever is responsible for buying players are a bunch of clowns. They just randomly buy whoever is performing well at a certain point in time without any thought or strategy.

They gave away Maxwell and while no one could have foreseen what happened in Punjab's first 3 matches, to give him away and then buy Corey Anderson is stupidity of the highest order(cue a 50 ball 100 from him soon now). Just because he scored the fastest 100 they totally disregarded how poor he is against spin or how ordinary his bowling is.
True, Mumbai Indians have never had a balanced team, they just go for the big names.

Most teams don't use their big hitters well, whether its IPL or international cricket, they can learn something from the Punjab team. They do have an in-form Maxwell in the team, but they are "not" the best batting line-up in the tournament, one thing they are doing different is that they are giving their big-hitters enough time in the middle, whether its Maxwell or Miller, they are not holding them back, its important that such guys get enough overs, when they bat only for the last few overs and slog from the first ball, they might get a few low scores and loose confidence. Punjab is able to score big because their big hitters are getting more time in the middle. You can always have more balanced players at the start and in the lower order, best batting positions for match winners and impact players would be 3,4 and 5.

Just look at how Albie Morkel is being handled(both by the SA team and RCB), bats very low in the order, gets a couple of overs and sometimes doesn't get to bat. You need to give such impact players a bit more time in the middle or else they might be wasted.

You will have to see the video for that. It was even shown in slow motion. I thought he might have said something else in real time, but then the replays were quite evident that he called him a chucker, and he didn't say anything else, just that one word. And even his voice was audible to an extent. I know an Aussie will always be defended on cricketweb, but what I saw was something disrespectful to Narine.

No, it's not at all obvious what he says, but the more I watch it the less likely I think it is that the first part of the word he says is a "Ch" as he mouth is quite wide and the ch sound comes from a narrow mouth.

His timidity was famed before the last Ashes tbh, to the point that it was commonly held against him as a reason why he shouldn't play for Australia.

RR's batting order baffles me but I'm pretty sure they were just giving people a hit, he usually bats 6. Should definitely be batting 4 or higher IMO.

Yeah thats why I don't think it is "CHucker". And I am not defending him, I honestly don't care much for the bloke but hanging someone on flimsy evidence is unwanted.

You can say chucker without making your mouth narrow. You can also say sucker. He's definitely not calling him a ****er there though, the lips are all wrong.

And wtf was Dhoni doing leaving it so late? Would have been a great NRR boost if he took all the risks and told the other bats to take it slow in case he got out.

Yeah, really easy finish unnecessarily taken till the last over. There are IPL batsmen and international batsmen. Why do Rohit, Dwayne etc dont do well in international T20s which they do so well in IPL. Hydearbad bowling attack was international standard.

All the Indian batsmen are struggling with runs, as well as strike rate. That's pinched a lot of IPL teams, who struggle once the overseas batsmen are dismissed. Glenn and Miller were hitting plenty of big sixes to help Punjab win a few games with ease, but once they were dismissed cheaply, they hobbled along to less than 140, and were lucky to have Kolkata's batting implode. Likewise, with Mike Hussey and Keiron Pollard struggling, Mumbai can't put the runs on the board- but theirs is a collective failure anyway. Cricinfo ran a short panel discussion on it.

This actually goes beyond the IPL. In the recently-concluded World T20, not a single Indian batsman was in the top ten strike rates. In fact, only Kohli struck over 125. While that might seem decent on slugtops, dustbowls and greentops, the high strike rates ahead of them suggest otherwise. Why, way beyond the IPL, we see poor strike rates and fewer runs What could be the cause? I feel the BCCI and selectors are not taking T20 seriously, with a ridiculously low-in-standard domestic T20 tournament in the middle of an Indian team tour/home series, as well as letting IPL franchises, who do not breed local talent but go scouting overseas, have a free run with that. And, of course, we see T20 misfit batsmen with strike rates in the 110s and bowlers who can't take wickets (and don't have great economy rates either) getting plenty of T20Is for India.

Things are a lot better looking for India on the bowling front, except that you now find how little T20I cricket they actually play.

lolwut?

Anderson was highly regarded in NZ for being able to play against spin, and being technically rather loose against pace. Hence debuting him against Bangladesh, where he made a ton against an attack filled with spinners.
Everything else you said is rather correct IMO, but I don't think his biggest weakness is against spin.
