Hagley Oval set for busy international summer | Stuff.co.nz
Test cricket returns to Christchurch in summer for the first time in eight years while the city will also host a one-day international in October.
The Press understands the Black Caps will host South Africa in what would be the first tier one ODI in Christchurch in nearly four years.
Then early in 2015, Brendon McCullum's men host Sri Lanka in a test match – Hagley Oval's first.
Neither New Zealand Cricket nor Canterbury Cricket would not comment any further than to say the schedule was nearly finalised and would be announced soon.
They previously told The Press they expected matches to be awarded to the city and Hagley Oval.
Cricket World Cup officials, who gifted Christchurch the opening match of next year's tournament between New Zealand and Sri Lanka, had also talked up the need for Hagley Oval to be tested before the 14-team event.
A source confirmed both the South African ODI and Sri Lankan test had been rubber-stamped.
It all makes sense, too. South Africa requested to play an ODI series in New Zealand ahead of the world cup and October is the only available opportunity.
Christchurch is one of the few cities playing cricket on grass at that time so is automatically a front-runner.
New Zealand play an away series against Pakistan, probably in Dubai, in November before returning for a two-test, seven-ODI series against Sri Lanka in December and January. Warm-up matches for the world cup begin in February.
